I'm sorry you had a bad experience! The app uses gestures for the functionality you are looking for. You can start a new game without finishing by shaking the phone, the same way you would to undo text entries in other apps. If you miscount, so long as the other player hasn't started counting their points, you can swipe from left-to-right to start your count over.
