  • Large Downloads Freeze & Video Issues

Large downloads freeze permanently. At that point you can only cancel them, not pause. Finger press does not pause. No matter what you do (toggle WiFi etc) they will never restart.

There are issues playing back video. You get a black screen at first and then have to enlarge then exit out then start again to see.

  • Amazing, great way to access information offline

Have this downloaded on multiple devices, works great, just wish there was an easy way to make my own files but pasting text into something.

  • Chinese Search Results Missing After Update

I’ve been a long-time user of Kiwix and have found it incredibly useful. However, after the recent update, I’ve noticed a significant issue: searching for Chinese entries often yields no results. This is a major problem for users who rely on the app for accessing Chinese content. I hope the developers can address this issue promptly, as it greatly affects the usability of the app for Chinese-speaking users.

  • Great except one thing

It’s nice to have Wikipedia for when you don’t have cell signal, but you can only download one file through the app. After you download one the only way to add additional files, that I’ve found, is to find them online.
  • Not as good as I'd hoped

When I first heard about this app, I had high hopes for it and imagined that I could have a library of files on my NAS which I could access from the app without filling up my iPad (the full Wikipedia is over 100GB).
Despite my Mac not having the specifications to use the Kiwix app (requires macOS 12), I can install a browser extension (on Brave) which allows me full access to files stored on my Synology NAS but when I tried to use the Kiwix app on my iPad, it appeared to be downloading the whole file from the NAS to my iPad and apart from filling up my precious iPad space was going to take a long time doing it - I abandoned it but from the rolling numbers looked like a couple of hours at least.

So, close but no cigar from me, Kiwix, sorry.

  • Awesome

This is awesome but how do I get back to the page where I download more stuff, I’ve been hitting every button for like 15 mins now lol

Even tried force-closing and re-opening the app
  • Ui a bit messy

Zim is great for offline storing, but the ui took a while to figure out. For example, I wanted to delete a file. Since I couldn’t find a delete button, I went into the files app and manually deleted it, but it still didn’t go away. Then after a while, I realized I had to long press tabs and hit library and then long press the file and hit unlink. My sister, who installed it for bulbapedia because she plays emulators offline, deleted it in one second because she couldn’t figure anything out, and then I had to install it and do everything for her.

  • Broken catalogue

There is no visible button to find the catalogue, the content I currently have from when you were able to download items is still there but I am unable to find the library to download content for the app.

  • Latest update is not the best on iPhones

For anyone looking at this review, long press on the “new tab” button to bring up the “settings” and “library” options

Putting the most important bit up top. That said, the fact that after you download a library, there looks like there’s no way to access settings is not great.

  • Please audit .zim, otherwise Absolutely amazing

Please audit the .zim files. If you click on Africa on the front page of the Wikipedia full size download, it’s just a wall of the N word repeating hundreds of times. I don’t know if it just slipped through Wikipedia but I just wanted this brought to someone’s attention. It’s otherwise a great app.
