I REMOVE my previous “5 stars!”

You want a word processor that’s FREE? Use your phone’s notes!! Do NOT use this app!!!! If I gave a thumbs down, my hand would crash through my floor if I could make it! I had written over 10 articles! Thought they were safe? NO! Now, after the app suddenly quits while typing, I only see “type here to write your ‘first’ document,” and it will NOT save!! Not even for a “first” doc after the fact! I read a reply about a similar problem, the creator said the files are “locally saved,” and suggested the phone’s storage was “full.” I have OVER 120 GB of free space locally! I search and search for my documents in my phone’s files, but they’re NOWHERE to be seen. Not any keywords, titles, or anything else I know should show up. Because NOTHING does!!

Bare bones, but FREE.

At least it seems free after downloading, and after 10 minutes. But so far, pop-up activation fees, no “terms of service” agreements, no subscription requests, nothing mentioning a “premium” for an unmentioned price. I’m thankful if I don’t need to pay a fee that I would lose track of. I don’t need or want a lot of fancy frills, so long as I can edit, and print! This is PERFECT!

Terrible terrible app

This is an awful app. I typed a whole paper and lost it. There was no way to return the work I did! So disappointing!

Response from developer

Dear Del Issa, I would first like to take the opportunity to apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused you. I'm genuinely sad to hear this seeing as I created A4 because I didn't like typing my bachelor thesis on my phone. So you losing your paper goes against the entire ethos of A4. However, at the same time I must say that A4 has been used by thousands of users and more than 10.000 documents have been created since launch. While some users have reported some minor issues, documents disappearing is extremely rare. Seeing as A4 only stores documents locally, I do wonder if the issue is connected to your device or storage being almost full? Without you providing more information, it's hard for me to diagnose what went wrong. Please reach out to me at my email, antonio@divkovic.com, and I'll personally see if I can help you somehow. Again, sincerely I apologize for this whole situation. Best regards, Antonio

Confused

It would be just what I was looking for, if I could find simple directions: such as how to save a document! Won’t it work on the ipad?

Response from developer

Thank you for the feedback. You're absolutely right, the app could really use some simple directions or some initial tutorial to introduce new users, and I appreciate you pointing that out. I'm sorry it wasn't as intuitive as it should be, especially on the iPad. If you're open to it, I'd be happy to help directly, feel free to reach out via email at antonio@divkovic.com. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, it helps a lot.

So basic, so beautiful

If you were writing fan fiction ~2000 to 2010, this is your WordPerfect, your AO3 blank box, your ffnet TXT doc minus the horrific formatting.
The app does exactly what it says it will with flawless and fast execution. Can’t thank the dev enough for supplying exactly what is needed for quick notation or brainstorming. Kindest regards to them for providing a solid user experience instead of trying to entertain the user’s wallet with unnecessary features bundled on top of a ‘meh’ app. No distracting features, no ads, no paywall, donations accepted but without intruding on the user even once. Enjoy that crispy black or white ‘sheet’ of paper on the iPad and nothing else.

Here is what you can do in A4:
Type text
Bold, italicize, & underline text
Align text (left, center, right)
Toggle dark/light mode
Share your text(s)
Screenshat your texts I guess if you wanted?
Scroll your document list (regrettably, you can’t
rearrange the order of the docs or sort them into categories or make folders for them or tag them. But the app is for writing and exporting your text on the fly, not for writing/storing/organizing notes).

That’s all it does! Mini but mighty. Less features is less bugs to fix, so the app continues to work without problems.

NOT for people who want Apple OnePage or even the sorta less fancy Apple Notes experience. You can’t embed things. You can’t draw or insert tables or graphs. No lines, no grids, just a blank page and maybe the reflection of your under-chin depending on light & angle. No Apple Pencil or handwriting support, keyboard room only. No importing pictures, no hyperlinking to other notes or pages within the app, no Siri when accidentally double tap the space bar—just none of the typical annoyances
Give it a try yourself, especially if you’re off-the-rails distractible.
