Big Time Bummer
I was super excited to see this app because I’ve been bumbling around Europe for many months and constantly looking to connect with diaspora fam.
I downloaded the app and it literally shows nothing at all on the map unless your location is in the US in which case you get a list. Even then it’s just a list of a few restaurants, and a bunch of hotels that are presumably not Black owned (Marriott, Hyatt, etc), scattered across the state(s).
You can’t see other users, you can’t search in specific areas, the “events” link links to articles about regional history as opposed to actual events you can attend, or to blogs from the website of which there are 4. Nearest restaurants to me are at least 4,000 kilometers away.
Excellent concept. Poor execution. Big Time Bummer.

Needs work
I have been so excited for this app so when I got the email notification that it was ready I was excited. But the app is lagging, I can’t search places. I’ll be optimistic and say it’s just working the bugs out but it needs to be fixed. I’ll leave a better review after that
A fantastic resource!
I find this to be a fantastic resource for supporting black-owned businesses and am already using it! i do prefer to toggle between list view and map view on resources like this so would love to see list view added in an upcoming update 😍
This App has come a long way!
I was on of the first to get and test this app. With all the concerns and questions posed by testers , the creator went back and added things that are helpful and exactly what travelers are looking for . Apps are forever changing so Im sure they’ll be updates. It hasn’t launched to the public yet but when it does it’s going to be so useful.
I love the recommend a business feature as it makes me feel like I’m putting other Black businesses on . You can add it while you’re at a Black business and the map will automatically populate .
As a solo traveler I set my profile to available to meet up and had a great dinner with another solo female traveler. We realized that we couldn’t see each others addresses which was a relief because on your backend you can . We’ve sent feedback to change that to maybe city and country so prople don’t loose their minds about it. We def want to feel safe.
The first time there was no explore page , now it’s there and it put a lot of businesses on my radar . I also love that you can invite other people to your trips and itineraries.

Great Potential but Needs Work
I learned about this app from a traveler profile on IG. Downloaded it and learned that your address is mandatory but doesn’t provide and explanation of why. You know Black folk don’t like giving out their address all Willy nilly. I obliged to see what the app was about. The next thing it did was ask if I wanted to turn on my location, I said no. But because of that I could only search by name of business and I didn’t know of any particular names to look for bc I was looking for non-local areas. I couldn’t type in a general NYC or LA or anything like that bc I needed to turn my location on in the settings. But then when I went to the settings, there’s nothing there to let me actually turn on my location. Seeing no way to fix this bc location was already on - on my phone settings just not the app, I deleted my account. One thing I learned while in the settings is they have a max distance of showing places that are 50 miles away from you. And that’s very limiting. If I wanted to go to businesses in major cities like LA, NYC, Chicago, it doesn’t appear I would be able to because they’re all over 50 miles from me unless I knew the name already.
I like where this app is going but I do think the kinks need to be flushed out some more. Keep going ABC Travelgreenbook!

App needs work still
The locations don’t auto populate. I typed New York City and nothing popped up but typed NYC I got a few results but some ended up in Illinois. It was hard to put a timeframe for an upcoming trip. I wanted to plan things for my birthday in May but I couldn’t set a time frame. Lastly, we’re asked for our address and I’m thinking it might be for a booking situation but instead it goes on your profile. When you click the link your address is fulling exposed and that made me super uncomfortable. I’m in love with the idea, I’ll come back later and maybe the tweaks will be worked out.
