What's New in AcousticOwl

1.4

October 29, 2026

• Better 3D furniture: sofas and chairs are upholstered, beds are made, and wood and fabric look like wood and fabric. A Shadows switch on the 3D view trades corner shadows for speed on older phones. • New furniture: a DJ booth, and DJ decks that sit on your desk or counter. Scans now recognize kitchen islands, counters and wall cabinets. • Sliding glass doors: a new door type on the Walls step, drawn as glass. Scans pick it up as well. • The Treat step makes your plan as soon as you open it. • Vaulted ceilings: the listening side view now cuts across the vault, so it matches the Ceiling step.

FAQ

How does AcousticOwl measure a room?

AcousticOwl can measure your room using LiDAR on compatible iPhones, automatically building a floor plan. If LiDAR is unavailable or the room is unusually shaped, you can draw the outline manually and input the ceiling height.

What acoustic issues does AcousticOwl identify?

AcousticOwl analyzes RT60 reverberation time across octave bands, identifies room modes (axial, tangential, oblique), and details the contribution of each surface to sound issues.

Can AcousticOwl help me choose acoustic panels?

Yes, AcousticOwl designs treatment layouts based on your chosen room type and its target reverberation time. It specifies panel positions, quantities, and provides a running cost estimate.

Does AcousticOwl use real acoustic data?

AcousticOwl is built on published absorption data and standard acoustics formulas, not just rules of thumb. It includes a catalog of materials and allows you to add your own.

Can I see what the treated room will look like?

Yes, after sketching in 2D, AcousticOwl generates a fully extruded 3D model of your room with every panel placed where it will actually go.

How can I share my AcousticOwl designs?

Designs sync across your devices. You can generate a read-only link that allows anyone to view your room and its treatment plan in a browser without needing an account.

Is AcousticOwl suitable for professional use?

The app is designed for home studio owners, podcasters, mixing engineers, and home cinema builders. Its ability to use real data and provide detailed analysis makes it valuable for professional applications.

What devices does AcousticOwl support?

AcousticOwl is currently supported on iPhones, with LiDAR functionality available on Pro models for enhanced room scanning.
