Changed my mind

I’m a pretty skeptical guy to begin with, but it always annoys me how little feedback auditions give so I gave this a try and I’m super impressed with how detailed and specific the feedback is.

That, combined with the examples of what to try differently and the daily exercises has me using it daily.

Really impressed so far.

TRY

I’ve never really had the money to work with a coach consistently, and I honestly feel like this app can replace about 80% of the feedback I would normally need from one. I get feedback much faster, I can use it whenever I need it, and I feel like I’m improving faster because I’m able to work on every tape instead of only the ones I can afford to take to a coach

Surprisingly helpful

I was honestly pretty skeptical at first. I didn’t think an app could give meaningful acting feedback. But after uploading my self-tape, I was surprised by how insightful the analysis was. It pointed out patterns I hadn’t noticed myself and even gave me practical ideas for improving my next take. I don’t agree with every single note and I don’t think anyone should but it’s become a really useful tool to review my work and catch things I would have otherwise missed. Definitely worth trying if you’re serious about improving your self-tapes.

Too AI dependent

It’s a decent app but it kept telling me wrong things. Like it kept saying I kept doing an “actor nod” and I looked back at the footage and I did no such thing. It said I was reading lines but I wasn’t doing so. Only positive thing I can note is that it does give good tips on what to do with beats and line delivery and gives good suggestions on actions. Other than that, most of the feedback it gave me was inaccurate. It was a waste of $95 for sure.

Response from developer

Thank you for the honest feedback - we genuinely appreciate it. We're still a very young startup, and improving the accuracy of the feedback is something we're working on constantly. You’re absolutely right that feedback isn’t useful when it identifies something that simply didn’t happen, and we take examples like these seriously. Our upcoming version includes significant improvements to the analysis, and we expect the feedback to be much more precise. That said, we never want someone to walk away from ActinGym feeling like they wasted their money. Please reach out to us directly, we'd love to learn more about the tapes where this happened and make things right. And if you still feel you didn’t receive the value you paid for, we’ll be happy to refund you. Thank you again for giving us a try and for helping us get better.

5 stars

I gave the app a chance, and it has been extremely helpful. It’s a great tool to use while learning script analysis and has given me a much clearer understanding of character beats and objectives. It can also be very difficult to perceive your own performance objectively, and the app detects facial expressions, vocal pitch, and tension surprisingly well, providing detailed and useful feedback.
