DOES NOT WORK SAFARI VERSIONS 16 and beyond

This extension does not work for me

It does not highlight the active tab when switching between tabs. I would like to request money back due to the fact that this extension does not work. Thank you.

Works great with Safari 15.1

Works as advertised ... another life annoyance solved for only $2. I have all my websites zoomed to 115% and the highlighting still tells me which tab is the active one. I also really like the "Improve visibility" option, so for example I can see the blue line on a site with a black background and the black line on a site with a blue background! Wonderful.

Great idea - just needs some more iteration!

Works and very happy to have this as an option, but the alignment seems to be off when used with Safari with Pinned Tabs along with Regular Tabs.

Would also be great if it had some ability to switch display color based on the tab color theme. For example, a dark color works well for light colored tabs, but is much harder to see on a dark colored tab.

Enabling "Improve visibility" in the settings should make it easier to see the indicator in both light and dark mode. You can also play around with the custom colors.

read this first, first

I bought this after seeing it on MacStories. I did not read the fine print at the top of the description. The last 2 items are important. On the mini, will a few too many tabs, the bar does not line up with the active tab.

Will see how well it works on the mac tomorrow.

The app is a band-aid solution and I have very little to work with: just the screen size and the number of tabs. From this 2 numbers I have to predict the position of the active tab and draw a line below it. It becomes impossible if the tab bar is scrollable (i.e. users can change the position of tabs) or the page zoom level has changed.

Quick update!

I complained yesterday that this extension was slowing down Safrai in a aprticular way.
Today the developer has released a fix!

That's the sort of attention to detail and complaints that we'd like to see in all software :-)

Somewhat effective, but kludgy

Not an indictment—this is a clever attempt at fixing Apple's atrocious tab UX. Unfortunately, the more tabs you have open, the more the highlights are offset and shrunk, to the point that they disappear altogether.

Are you setting the zoom level of the web pages to more than 100%? The tab indicator is part of the web content and won't be accurate if your zoom level is not 100%.

Doesn't really help or solve the problem that Apple created

I get how the solution is implemented but its not a very good solution.

Disables Start Page. So many fishing warnings fro OS on this also.

It's a workaround to put indicators on new tabs. You can turn this off in Safari's preferences.

I bougth this and I do not buy many apps. I wanted to like it. but it puts a bar not under the tab but on top of the actual webpage and vaguely in line with the tab opened..in other words it still takes some guessing, it does not serve its purpose.

a bigger probelm for me is privacy , the app description proudly says it does not collect any info, but the extension asks the user to authorize the below:

"
This extension would be able to read and alter webpages and see your browsing history on these websites. This could include sensitive information, including passwords, phone numbers, and credit cards."

You can change this later in Safari Websites preferences.

Make sure you're using the "Separate" tab layout. ActiveTab does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. The permission is only for getting the number of tabs in the browser window.

Needs to work with Favorites bar enabled

Nice idea, but I find that the alignment is often off, and it needs to appear below the tab itself when Favorites bar is enabled, not underneath the Favorites bar. It becomes difficult to spot and defeats the purpose.

Safari extensions can only modify web content. The Favorites Bar and the tab bar are not web content. However, Apple has moved the Favorite Bar to the top of the tab bar in the latest macOS beta.

Clever idea; works better without bookmark bar

This is an excellent compromise to address Apple's new tab system. (Please, Apple, there was nothing wrong with the previous tabs!!)

If the bookmark bar is active, however, the Active Tab highlight appears below the bookmark bar, rather than the tab bar. Hopefully a simple bug to fix :-)

Great idea by the developer and I hope that the minor bookmark bar glitch can be addressed. Thank you so much!

it's a start

First: it's a shame that we have to install extensions to un-break Safari's new interface.
This one, Ithought would work for me but alas... no-where near as well or throrougly as I'd hoped.

It doesn't work at all in Compact mode which I actually prefer, and it's drawing the lines in the content area, not under the actual tab which severely reduces the usefuleness.

Since it's an extension it takes up space on the toolbar adding more clutter, which is a problem in itself.

It's 'only' $1.99 but still not worth even that to me. there's $2 down the drain.

The app only works with the Separate tab layout. As the position of the active tab in Compact layout is impossible to predict. Safari extensions can only modify web content. Drawing a line on top of web pages is the closest we can get for a tab indicator. You can get a refund at https://reportaproblem.apple.com/

For it to work, you must approve its use for all web sites AND let the extension "read and alter sensitive information on webpages, including passwords, phone numbers, and credit cards, and see your browsing history"

Useless...waste of money

First, the extension requiers access to all websites in order to work, not the best practice in terms of security. In addition the UI is really bad, it's not easy to notice the line below the tab
