Apple TV disappointment

I tried this app to see if it would block ads in the YT app on ATV. I was unsuccessful. After reading some more on their website, I'm still not sure it was designed to do that. I would appreciate a little more clarity from the developer.

I don't need it for any of my other devices so I can't speak to how it works there.

YMMV.

didnt see any ads being blocked ok websites. i enabled everything i settings and rebooted. also doesnt block YouTube. suggesting that you turn off subscription renewal alerts is a really cute dark pattern...

Useless on Apple TV

The app doesn’t block ads on YouTube or Netflix on Apple TV. Why? Not supposed to be a solid product?

Magic Lasso blocks all ads in Safari and many ads in other apps, via the App Ad Blocking feature, when used on an iPhone or iPad. On the Apple TV, you can see the number of ads and trackers that have been blocked by opening the Magic Lasso app on your Apple TV and viewing the Insights at the bottom of the Overview screen. This will show you the ads and trackers blocked every hour. You should see a significant number of ads and trackers blocked here, and we are continually improving the app to ensure it blocks more in the future. At the moment, it won't block YouTube or Netflix ads on the Apple TV, but we do have longer-term plans to improve ad blocking on the Apple TV so that it should be more effective on those apps too.

Impressive… maybe

I love that Magic Lasso is available on Apple TV. It claims to be blocking hundreds of connections every night, but there’s no way to see what was blocked. Seems suspect that more traffic is blocked overnight than when actually using Apple TV…

Thanks for the feedback. On the Apple TV, you can see the number of ads and trackers that have been blocked by opening the Magic Lasso app and viewing the Insights at the bottom of the Overview screen. This will show you the ads and trackers blocked every hour. Most of the items that Magic Lasso may be blocking are trackers, and a large volume of blocking may indicate an app trying multiple times to access a tracker domain when it is being blocked. So for instance, an app, or even an inbuilt part of tvOS, is attempting to access a tracker, it is blocked, and tries again. This will increase the volume of items shown in the Insights.

Magic Lasso blocks almost all ads in Safari and also blocks many ads in other apps, including some ads in social media apps via our App Ad Blocking feature. We are constantly improving App Ad Blocking to be more effective at blocking ads in apps and will take your feedback on board to improve ad blocking in social media apps too.

Subscription Constantly Breaks

Every time I update this app it refuses to restore my existing subscription. I’m sick of having to contact support to re-activate something I’ve already paid for.

So I am confused

Not only is this Not blocking any ad’s on YT, and yes I am going through Safari. But the ads r loading So bloody slow I can’t even continue watching videos. It just taking Way too much time. Am I missing something?

Great support!

In addition to Magic Lasso delivering on its promise to block ads and trackers, the support is outstanding. They respond to my questions quickly and yesterday followed up with me to make sure an update we discussed weeks ago was still effective. A benefit for purchasing from a small independent developer!

Messes up your iMessage

This app was great until I noticed iMessage stopped working on my phone as well as my wife’s phone. Several days with customer service of finally figuring out this app with the VPN blocked any iMessage from coming in. It’s since been deleted from our phones.

Messes with iOS and my wifi. Useless in NY Times app.

Have lost my text messaging and wifi using this app. Also consistently fails to block ads NY TIMES APP, even using custom settings. Price very high for what it does.
