About

Aethopia brings Hong Kong weather, global wind fields and tropical cyclone tracks together in one place, and tells you the moment a signal takes effect. Today Live Observatory readings, a two-hour rain nowcast, the next hours and seven days, sunrise, sunset and UV, and the Moon with its rise and set times. More than 50 km from Hong Kong, a second page shows the weather where you are (only after you allow location). Map Global wind-field particles plus ten layers including temperature, rain and pressure. Select a storm to see its forecast track, uncertainty spread and wind field. Press and hold anywhere to read the wind, pressure and temperature at that point. Storms Active tropical cyclones in the North-West Pacific, the Atlantic and the East Pacific: how far from Hong Kong, where they are heading, the closest approach, and the chance of a No. 8, 9 or 10 signal. Signal chances are Aethopia's own estimates and are research in nature; for official warnings rely on the Hong Kong Observatory. Aviation Hong Kong International Airport observations and forecasts: runway wind components, visibility, cloud base and flight category. Studies Hourly replays of past storms (Mangkhut, Hato, Vicente and more) alongside the station readings recorded at the time. Alerts and widgets Three alerts, each of which you can turn off: tropical cyclone signals, storms within 500 km and new storms forming. Home and lock screen widgets show the temperature, rain, sunset countdown and the storm line; while a signal is in force, the Dynamic Island and lock screen show the current signal and the latest chance. Sources Public data from the Hong Kong Observatory, the Japan Meteorological Agency, the US National Hurricane Center, Open-Meteo and others, all listed under Sources and limits in the app. When an upstream source is unavailable the page says so instead of filling in numbers. Aethopia collects no personal identifiers; location is used only to show the weather and is neither stored nor tracked.
