Incredible

Really upped my game.

Amazing app

This app has been such a game changer for me. Highly recommend.

Repetitive and AI is confused

The negative points:
1) it says free trial, but it automatically preauthorizes the monthly fee. So the moment I downloaded I got charged a pending transaction of 13.64 CAD, which is the 9.99 usd monthly fee which will automatically kick in I assume. I don’t like pre authorized pending transactions. And it’s not clearly stated in the details of the app on the App Store.

2) The puzzles often repeat even when in different categories of puzzle types.

3) the AI that uses small fish most likely, when you play the app bots, if you review the game or even its live commentary it always assumes you are white. So when I play black, in the after game review it says “bot did X” but it’s the other way around the comments should be.

The neutral:
If you make a chess.com account (it’s free) or lichess (also free) you can get the AI to use the engine to go over your games. Also to have training plans you need to have a chess.com or lichess account.

Which I noticed is essentially just parts you can already get or pay through chess.com or lichess.

For a 79.99 life time fee or a 69$ annual, it’s meh.

The positive:
The opening descriptions and overview are great. Short text well categorized and has a pack of opening to view and rehearse and practice.

Misc:

Know that I have cancelled the trial, I will monitor to see if the pending charge goes away.

Response from developer

Hey there thanks for the detailed feedback — this will really help us make the app better. On the billing: you're right that it needs to be clearer, and I'm sorry for the confusion. The pending 13.64 CAD is an Apple pre-authorization hold, not an actual charge — it's released within a few days, and cancelling the trial like you did means nothing gets charged. But the fact that it wasn't obvious is on me, and I'm updating the paywall and the App Store description so the trial and pricing terms are clear up front. The puzzles repeating is a fair hit — we're actually in the middle of adding a lot more puzzles right now and tightening up the sorting/filters so you stop seeing the same ones across categories. The Black/White thing is a real bug too — the post-game review shouldn't narrate from White's side when you played Black. That's being fixed. And thank you for the note on the opening descriptions — really glad those landed for you. I'd love for you to see where the app is headed in the next update. Either way, I really appreciate you giving Chessy a real shot.

Waste of time

The app isn’t able to download any of my games from Lichess.

Response from developer

Sorry to hear that! Lichess connection works best when you go through Settings → Connect Account. Give that a try and you should be good to go. If you run into anything else, hit us up at chessyappsupport@gmail.com — happy to help!
