Great app! Simple yet powerful search

After reading the previous comments I decided to play around with the search capabilities. The types of searches you can do are quite impressive so I would not pay attention to the previous review of too many results. The user just didn’t try the other searches.
One thing I would like to mention are the aviation calculators. They are so much better than using an E6B and I like how you can switch between units as well.
Keep up the good work!

Kind of a scam

Ok I just got the app and bought the enhanced map. I go to look at Dulles airport there is nothing there that I couldn’t see on the Dulles airport site for free actually it was less and for that they charged me. Stupid this is only good for finding gate numbers which most airports have on their web pages. Very disappointed I was hoping it would at least give restaurants, bathrooms, and airline club locations.

Response from developer

Hi there, Sorry to hear you had this trouble but the maps work as intended and you can see the restaurants.  On the map screen verify you are looking at Map and not Satellite then click on "Layers" in the upper right portion of the screen. Turn off the "Terminal" layer (the building outlines) and you will see all of the businesses in the airport straight from the Apple Maps database along with a blue pulsing dot showing where you are in the map. Operating this way means the businesses are more up to date than if that data was maintained within the app itself. Also, the Terminal layer is active during the initial map load since there are airports in the world where this vector information is not drawn in on the maps. I hope this helps!

Needs work

If you put three-letter airport codes into tr search term, it ignores them and instead searches for words that have those three letters. For example, a search for MEX doesn’t bring up Mexico City, but instead yields tons of results such as “Mexico Farms Maryland” and “Mexico Missouri”. Seriously? This app is for pilots?

Response from developer

I understand your frustration but this was a design trade that had to be made. There are over 50,000 airports in Airport Guide and only a handful of those have IATA codes. The decision was made for the BASIC SEARCH to allow people to search by ID (local, FAA, ICAO, IATA, etc.), name, city, state, and/or country. If a person did not know an ID they would still be able to find the airport using one of these other types of searches. Also, after your search for "MEX", you could just type in the filter box at the top of the results. Type in Mexico City and 2 airports show up. There are also 3 other types of searches; Advanced Search, Radius Search, and Find Nearby Airports. If you used the Advanced Search, you could have typed "MEX" in the IATA ID search field and found your result directly. In summary, the search capabilities are extremely powerful and probably a lot more than anyone needs. For fun, try a search by lat/long or see all fields within 10 miles of a location with a runway at least 5000 feet long. If you have any other questions, please ask.
