About

aka maps is an offline map that speaks your household's language. Name places the way you actually say them — "the good Publix", "Grandma's", "the back way" — and the map, search and turn-by-turn use those names from then on. Everything works with no signal. Download a state (or a whole country) once and you have the map, place search, house-number addresses and driving, cycling and walking directions on the phone itself. Routes are computed on the device. Search never touches the network. YOUR NAMES, YOUR COLLECTIONS • Give any place a name of your own. It shows on the map, ranks first in search, and is what guidance says out loud. • Group names by how you use them: Everyday for the regulars, a collection per trip or routine. • Share a collection with the people you choose — a spouse, the carpool, the beach-trip crew. Names sync device to device, end-to-end encrypted. We never see a name. • Household notes on places ("pharmacy pickup is at the back counter") and your own arrival point when the map routes to the wrong door. DRIVING • Turn-by-turn with lane guidance, spoken with your names. • Speed limits and speed-camera alerts from the offline data. • CarPlay: the same names on the car screen. • "Hey Siri, take me to the good Publix in aka maps." APPLE WATCH • The next turn on your wrist in your own words, with haptic turn cues so most turns never need the screen. PRIVATE BY DESIGN • No account. No sign-in. No analytics, no ads, no trackers. • Your searches, routes and names stay on the phone. Nothing leaves it unless you share a collection, and then only as encrypted data we can't read. • Backup rides iCloud device backup, or export a names file you keep anywhere — it opens on any phone. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors; places from Overture Maps; addresses from OpenAddresses. Built on MapLibre and Valhalla. Regions available today: all 50 US states, DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, Canada, Mexico, Poland and Ukraine, with more added as they are built.
