Thanks for implementing my accessibility suggestions!
Response from developer
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed, specific review. Feedback like yours is exactly what helps us build something that actually works for the people using it, not just what we assume works. I wanted to let you know that everything you described has been fixed: Every tile now has a proper VoiceOver label ("Tile 1" through "Tile 25"), numbered left to right, top to bottom, so you always know exactly which tile is under your finger. The answer window is now significantly longer for VoiceOver users, since we recognized that exploring the board by touch before tapping takes real time that a sighted player doesn't need. This applies across every game mode, not just one. Wrong answers and timeouts now come with a haptic buzz, so you get clear feedback even without a visual cue. These changes are done and are on their way to you now. As for customizable instruments for the tile sounds, we were already working on that as part of a future release, and it will be part of our Premium offering once it's ready. Thank you again for pushing us to make Akoustik better for everyone.
Super!
Good game, but needs improvement for Voiceover users.
In ALL game modes, Voiceover should label each tile with numbers, such as, "Tile 1, tile 2, tile 3," etc. So tiles 1 through 5 are in the first row, tiles 6 through 10 are in the second row, tiles 11 through 15 are in the third row, tiles 16 through 20 are in the fourth row, and tiles 21 through 25 are in the fifth row. Having Voiceover number each tile will make it a LOT EASIER for Voiceover users to find the correct tiles during gameplay.
Because Voiceover users have to explore the screen by touch, more time should be alotted for repeating each sequence during gameplay. This applies to ALL game modes. For instance, while in the Sound Creator mode, I tapped each tile and noticed that you're using the C major scale, with tile 1 sounding a third-octave C, and tile 25 sounding a sixth-octave F. Now, if I'm on level 1, and I hear, for example, a sixth-octave C, I have to drag my finger on the screen until I hear Voiceover say, "Tile 22." Then, while keeping my finger there, I use another finger to tap the screen, which causes Tile 22 to be tapped, which causes the sixth-octave C to sound, and therefore, I score a point! So you can see why more time needs to be alotted in all the game modes of Akoustik, because Voiceover users have to explore by touch until they hear the tile they want.
My last suggestion is optional. It would be AWESOME if, in the Settings screen of Akoustik, you added the ability for users to change the instrument, key, and scale that the tiles sound! Right now, you have just the C major scale, but I might want to repeat a sequence of tiles using, for example, a D harmonic minor scale on the piano, or an F chromatic scale on the guitar.
If you could implement these suggestions in your next update of Akoustik, I'd GREATLY appreciate it. Thanks.
