One of the first Downlaoders here
One of the first Downlaoders here (YEARS AGO) and have probably recommended downloading this app to a good 100-150 people. No one seems to know about ASTER based elevation mapping, oddly enough. The military/DOD has its own “ASTER” database which is accurate to a few millimeters!!! (If they would allow us access). The database this uses is called GeoNames. It is in the apps small print and is very accurate according to my land survey. Accurate to a 1-2 feet in elevation!
But this is a FANTASTIC APP for precise gps navigation.
In all the years this app has been available, they have NEVER “discontinued” or abandoned the app to begin a more “robust” version in an attempt to “squeeze” people for more $$. They regularly update it and it is the best and only “exact elevation app” I have. About a year ago, I did a search in the App Store, and there was only ONE OTHER app that featured ASTER, oddly! I guess people are not as finicky like me about aviation navigation…
Consider purchasing their IAP’s as well. Great developers!

It should be called elevation
Altitude refers to the height above mean sea level regardless of elevation of the land. The symbol of the altimeter falsely implies it uses barometric pressure as well as gps for aircraft altitude. But, it only tells you the elevation of the ground.
Am giving it 2 stars because it does do a good job at elevation but only two stars because it does not give altitude.

Works great
I love it. It was a quick and easy download and took off working right away. I was away from home in Wyoming and wanted to know the altitude where we were. Worked great especially with having two options to determine the altitude. Good enough for my purposes.

Total crap. Only is suppose to do one thing and doesn't do it! Like most $.99 apps, not worth it
Mit Unstimmigkeiten
Auf meinem 3Gs ist die von dieser App angezeigte GPS-Höhe immer deutlich höher als die über das Internet bezogene. Die über die Position und das Höhenmodell ermittelte Höhe stimmt recht genau.
Merkwürdig ist, dass die GPS-Höhe von Altitude am selben Ort zur selben Zeit auch deutlich höher ist, als die von anderen Apps. Man sollte meinen, dass dies beim korrekten Auslesen des GPS-Chips eigentlich nicht möglich ist.

Hmm...
Ok so basically this app works 60% of the time, but if I'm honest I never before relised that when I get out of my bed I drop 400 feet, this simple drop completely screwed up the app. I wouldn't advise anybody to by it personally but if you got cash spare then why not?

in my case i loaded the software to my ipod touch and is not working ,my country is in its database and is not showing up..
