The lumni Club now houses restaurants, sports complex, auditoriums, library and guest rooms. The Club is a place to re-establish the camaraderie and unity of the four prestigious colleges of Anna University – the College of Engineering (Guindy), AC College of Technology, Madras Institute of Technology and School of Architecture & Planning. the oldest technical institutions of India, came up on May 17, 1794 as a Survey school with just eight boys in a building near Fort St. George during the British regime. The East India Company established this Survey School to train military personnel and surveyors. This grew to a Civil Engineering School in 1858 and later on to a Civil Engineering College in 1859. In 1862, the Civil Engineering College was elevated to the status of an Engineering College. This was followed by Alagappa Chettiar College of Technology (1944), Madras Institute of Technology (1949) and Architecture & Planning (1957). In 1978 it was established as Anna University, as a unitary type of university, integrating the four technical institutions.
