About

Amanuensis OCR turns the pages you photograph or import into text, and does it entirely on your iPhone: offline, with no account and nothing sent to any server. It reads modern print (books, articles, notes, typewritten letters) and early printed works too, from incunabula to nineteenth-century newspapers, with their period spellings. Behind it is Amanuensis Ligero, a reader built for historical documents. HOW IT WORKS • Scan several pages in a row with the app's camera, or import photos and PDFs from Photos or Files. • You can also share images and PDFs to Amanuensis from other apps, or open them with it from Files or Mail. • Each page is straightened, split into lines, read in the right order and corrected word by word. • Fix the text on the same screen if needed: your changes go into whatever you export. EXPORT YOUR WAY • PDF with the image and the text underneath, searchable and copyable. • Word (.docx), Markdown or plain text. • For reading, with paragraphs and hyphenated words joined across pages, or as is, line by line with page numbers and headers. • Typeset edition: the text composed on your phone with an Ulysses style, like a paper or like a book, with footnotes and page numbers. You can load your own styles. YOU CHOOSE HOW IT READS • Precise or fast reading. • Per-page, classic or minimal layout: by default it chooses for each page, classic for modern print and minimal for the curved lines of an open book. TRULY PRIVATE Everything happens on your phone. The app collects no data, has no analytics or ads, and needs no sign-up. WHAT IT READS AND WHAT IT DOESN'T It reads the Latin alphabet: Spanish, English, French, Latin and the other languages that use it, printed or typewritten. It does not read Greek, Cyrillic, Arabic, Hebrew or Asian scripts, and it reads handwriting with many errors. Amanuensis is a project by José Luis Saorín Ferrer.
