Microphone- reading

The part where my child reads, it will not listen to her. It is frustrating and it needs a little more fixes to it. She was excited to read and then this happened and discouraged her. Please fix it. This game can be great!
Also, test it out for yourself.

Amira

I’m not a child but this helps me. It’s been freezing lately.

So good!

Hi I’m destiny! A kid in 3rd grade and I love amira! She reads to me! So great! NEW UPDATE PLEASE!

Great tool

My 6 years old loves this app, I see some of negative reviews, but they are not recent so I believe a lot has been fixed. My kid can read most of the words and it shows her how to read the ones she doesn’t know.

Amira and StoryCraft Reading

This app crashes a lot my daughter haven’t been able to get on the app without it crashing. I just downloaded it today March 3 20222

Frustrating

Only works on apple and only apple device in whole family was old and unused. Took 3 weeks working with Apple to get upgraded and signed in and downloaded only to learn for the first time it only goes to 3rd grade and my kid is in 4th.... hate apple and this app is way too restrictive in availability and grade. Should be up to 6th at least to complete elementary

As a kid:

I got to level 7 and the bots where slow. Way to slow and nothing is changing past that level.

Where’s the learning?

I watched my first grader try this. While she can get some words and close to most others, the app would “complete” sentences even if she only started to say some words and never finished others. The only time it ever gave feedback was when she never attempted a word. And then, it just made her say it three times after saying what the word was. For something that has received credit as a top 100 invention of the year… I definitely set my expectations too high. That, or there’s more to this than was evident after 10 minutes.

Scratch Audio?

Cute idea but seems like it was pushed before fully developed. Grade 2 feedback from Amira is still scratch audio.

Ugh

App refuses to open

Need to change levels

The original level picked is too advanced. I need to be able to pick a lower level.

Fun reading app

Impressed by the A.I.’s ability to respond and correct in real time. Good feedback during reading. Fun games for kids.

No story

I clicking on the next book. It said “there are no more story for you.

Hi there, Thanks for letting us know about this issue. We've made a fix so you should be getting stories again. Please also contact us at support@amiralearning.com so we can get this right. Thanks!

Not “independent” learning, not adaptive learning

Update: Per the developer response, this is a “learn to read app” for kids in the “learning to read stage” but it will not teach them to read, they have to already know that to use the app. 🤨 Did I READ that right?

Not sure what app won all the awards they’re advertising, but it certainly wasn’t this one. We signed up for a free trial (for which you have to submit credit card information—a huge red flag). Spent a few minutes trying to use the app with my kid. There was zero instruction, just sentences on screen that she was expected to read. But uhhh she CAN’T read yet, which is the whole point of the app. Nah! Not independent learning, and started from an arbitrary point, without any sort of explanation of the program or placement test. Nothing like the other legitimate educational and adaptive learning apps that we’ve used.

Response from developer

Hi there - thank you so much for the feedback. Amira and the StoryCraft is best suited for early readers in the “learning to read” phase. Your feedback is spot on - to successfully use the app, it is important children are able to sound out some words, read early sight words, and are beginning to connect text with meaning. The app is not suited for children who are still developing pre-reading skills including letter recognition and letter sounds. Your feedback is extremely helpful and we'll use it to adjust our messaging so this is clearer to other families considering Amira. We also appreciate your feedback around your first experience with the app. The initial text presented is intended to help Amira calibrate to your child's reading ability; based on what Amira learns, she'll adjust subsequent text that's presented. That being said, your feedback that it wasn't clear what was happening and that the text felt arbitrary is really useful; we are actively working on some improvements here so stay tuned! Thanks again.
