Great App, but

it would be nice if the app itself could host AUv3 units too. 100 Presets is great, looper and drum machine are perfect additions for standalone use. Wow and manual!!

Response from developer

Thanks! Glad the presets, looper, and drum machine are working well for your standalone rig, and that the manual landed too. Turning Ampz into a host that loads other AUv3 units is something we're thinking about, though I can't promise it yet. For now it works the other way around: Ampz is itself an AUv3 effect you can load into a host like AUM or Loopy Pro alongside your other units. Thanks for the great suggestion and the kind words. - Jonathan

Superb

What a brilliantly conceived and designed application. A real pleasure to use, and I’m bowled over by the realism of neural amp modelling (which is new to me).

The functionality, MIDI in particular, seems to offer everything needed for live performance. Just two caveats on this from my side. First, is it stable enough? I hope so but I’ve not yet used it anything like enough to know the answer to this. Second, I’m running it on an iPad mini, which seems like a good platform for live work. But the Ampz Live view doesn’t yet use all the available screen space to best effect, with things that could be big and bold appearing too small for my own preference. But this alone wouldn’t stop it from being workable.

The app is new so I’m sure that the dev team will work this through. They’ve done a fantastic job!

We're really glad the amp modeling and the MIDI feature set are clicking for live use, since that's exactly what we built it for.On your two points: stability is our top priority, and every release goes through on-device testing before it ships. If you ever hit anything unexpected, please reach out so we can look into it directly. On the iPad mini layout, a recent update (1.5.0) specifically reworked the iPad Live view to use the full screen: the controls scale up, the knob grid spreads out and grows larger, and text and the toolbar are sized up for tablet. Make sure you're on the latest version and let us know how it feels on the mini. Thanks again for taking the time to review and for downloading. - Jonathan

Amazing!

Wow! I just bought the tonex one plus pedal and this….Ampz is 10xs better….I messed around three and a half hours with Tonex with software and still couldn’t get it to work. I said I’m done! I saw this advertised and bought it the same day. The effects are really decent and the integration of tone3000 is sooooooo simple!

Thank you, this means a lot! I'm glad Ampz got you playing instead of troubleshooting. Also happy the Tone3000 integration and the effects are working for you. There's an iPad-optimized update out now, and more on the way. If you ever hit a snag or have a request, reach out. I read everything. (And nice username JMP 2203. 🤘) Jonathan

Excellent app

The exact NAM loader I was looking for! Supports a2, integration with website to download tones straight from app and quality of life features like bread and butter fx mean I can do everything in the app for quick jams

Response from developer

Thanks so much for the fantastic review! It is incredibly rewarding to hear it's hitting the mark for you. Making it seamless to grab tones and immediately dial them in with included FX was a huge priority. Keep an eye out for more updates, and happy jamming!

Intuitive, but could use some work

Sounds very shrill on most presets without using an EQ to cut it down. Easy to download new NAM profiles. Doesn’t sound as good as using a pc. At least it supports the latest 2.0 profiles. If it sounded better and the control knobs weren’t clunky (could be larger on iPad) I’d love to use this in a live setting.

Response from developer

Hi there, thank you for the feedback! We are actively working on an iPad UI update to better utilize the larger screen sizes. Regarding the shrill tone you mentioned, this is likely caused by digital clipping where the hardware input and the app's gain staging are pushing the model too hard. To solve this, our next update will introduce input/output metering and an automatic input calibration feature to help match your hardware to the model’s sweet spot. If you'd like help troubleshooting your signal chain in the meantime, please reach out to me directly at jonathan@ampz.app. I'm also putting together some new demo videos for the community soon!
