Not a Drag

Great App! Best one I’ve seen!
Alerting me to unexpected weather via the PredictWind link is the game changer! Easy to adjust the alarm circle. I will be using this App for peace of mind while at anchor! Thanks!

Peace of mind

Setup and monitoring is very intuitive: really like the user experience for this! DataHub is a key part of our nav kit, and I love that we can have a position monitoring tool that also delivers the rest of our NMEA2000 data remotely. Truly peace of mind when we’re away from Totem.

Gives me peace of mind

I get alerts from my boat when I am away. At any time I can see on the map where the boat is and has been. The NMEA updates are useful. I did end up disabling the critical alerts for the app in iOS so I could silence the alerts with the volume button. The alerts are obnoxiously loud when received unless you disable critical alerts.

This app is a great addition to the Predict Wind toolbox. Nice work, keep it up.

Hello Marc, It's wonderful to hear that you find the Anchor Alert app a valuable addition to the PredictWind Apps! Thank you for your encouragement; it means a lot to our team. ⚓️ - PredictWind Support Team

Not Reliable

When I launch the app, it warns that my DataHub must have firmware version 4.52, yet that's the exact version I'm running. I've tried using this app multiple times over the past year, and each time it's been extremely buggy. If there's one app I have zero tolerance for failure, it's my anchor app. There's too much at stake if it fails. There are many rock-solid anchor apps to choose from. Give this one a pass.

Hi FortyEightFan, thank you for your feedback! To ensure everything works seamlessly, please update both the DATAHUB Firmware and the Anchor Alert App to the latest versions. The DataHub v4.54 is now available, and updating it should resolve the issue. These updated versions are a major upgrade. If you encounter any further challenges, feel free to reach out at support@predictwind.com. Wishing you a smoother experience ahead! ⚓️

This app sucks

Not user friendly and gives false alarms. Nice idea and poor execution.

Now the Anchor Worries About Me

Five stars, and I would award a sixth if the interface allowed it. Paired with the PredictWind DataHub, Anchor Alert stops guessing from a phone in a bunk and reads the boat’s own NMEA 2000 instruments instead, so the swing circle it draws is the one my bow roller actually describes. Wind, depth and scope arrive live on the dashboard, and the alerts follow me ashore over the boat’s internet connection, which means dinner in town no longer comes with a side of quiet dread. The AIS safety zone is the unexpected treasure: I am warned about the neighbour dragging down on me before he is aware of it himself. Setup took one evening and a firmware update. Since then, dormio securus.

Hi J.J.R, thank you for your review! We continue to work really hard on the Anchor App to make it the best app available for safe anchoring. We're delighted it's working well for you. Please stay tuned as new features are launching all the time, such as AIS Proximity alerts, min/max Depth alerts and modifying Drag/Swing/Depth and other alerts during an active alert session.

Why?

Why does this app need access to Facebook or my personal email to even launch? Don’t use this.

Response from developer

Hi Vladic, thanks for your feedback. The app requires an account so that alerts, settings, and safety features like delivering alerts can work across devices and when you're remote. You can sign in with Apple, email,. Google or Facebook to manage your privacy. Please get in touch with us at support@predictwind.com, and we’ll help you get started.⚓️

Fail

First thing it asks for is a login. I prefer to use my email instead of going through Google or Facebook. But there is no choice to set up a login. It assumes you already have an account and wants a password.
So I couldn’t even try the app. Huge usability fail.

Response from developer

Hi Hugo, Thank you for sharing your experience. You can still log in using your email instead of your social login. Please log out and choose the email option. If you run into any more issues, feel free to reach out to us at support@predictwind.com or through in-app support, and we'll be happy to help you.

Clunky

Setup is clunky but I figured it out. Received several false drag alerts. I finally just turned it off and used my other trusty anchor alarm. Not impressed

Response from developer

Hi there. We apologize for the experience you've had with the setup and drag alert. Please update your app and DataHub firmware, and if you encounter more issues, email us at support@predictwind.com so we can investigate and resolve it. We've just released a new, much-improved beta you could use instead. Thank you for your feedback! ⚓️

Good potential, needs reliability

Has good potential. However, my DataHub frequently (1-3 times a week) disconnects from Starlink WiFi with no alert. The anchor alarm thus stops working but there is no notification. I leave my anchor alert on when I move anchorages. 50% of the time, no drag alert is triggered. When the alert is triggered, it also takes too many minutes. I’d have dragged anchor onto a beech before the alert is triggered on my phone.

Please reach out to support@predictwind.com for help with setting up your Starlink connection. You might need to adjust the Starlink Channel to prevent disconnections or separate the Starlink Wi-Fi into 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. Essential

An essential piece of safety equipment for long term cruising. One of the best investments you can make.

Response from developer

Thank you for your fantastic feedback! It's great to hear that you view the app as an essential safety tool and a wise investment for cruisers. I appreciate you taking the time to share a review. ⚓️ - Matt - PredictWind

Unreliable

I bought a data hub, have Starlink and am a techie. Yes the hub knows it’s on a Starlink connection. The app does all the smart stuff but it’s unreliable, which can be more dangerous than not having it.

I don’t get alerted if it loses hub connection.

I moved 20nm and reset the alarm. Not only did it set it for my old location it didn’t send an alert. I login to the datahub, it knows where I am. My iPhone knows where I am but not the app! I kill and reset the app and suddenly I moved.

Just can’t trust that behaviour.

It needs a supervisory set of checks before it’s safe to use.

Also - the app only offers you a review if you say you feel safe. Skews ratings - dishonest.

SV SAVID

We love PredictWind software but this is standalone app is a piece of junk. Even with the PredictWind hub, it doesn't function right.

Response from developer

Hi David, Thanks for submitting the reivew and apologies for your experience to date. I've been in touch directly to see if I can assist with troubleshooting. I'm hopeful we can get it going for you soonest so you can enjoy using it successfully.

Many false alarms

“Modify swing alert created” goes off continuously although I disabled that alert and closed the app. I also get anchor drag alerts with strange incorrect position jumps. I set the device to use specific accurate gps sources on NMEA 2000 and not use its internal gps but no luck so far.

Response from developer

Hi RockScissorPaper, thanks for your review. Sorry for the tricky start with the Anchor App. Please email support@predictwind.com and I'll help, or watch the Quick Start video I made here: https://youtu.be/OxzNpnWU60E to walk you through app setup and use step by step. Once you've got the app setup and understand how it works, it's awesome!

Annoying

Anchor alerts, swing alerts go off even when turned off and disabled. Really expected more from predictwind.

Response from developer

Hi DridasX, sorry to hear you're getting alerts after turning it off. Please email support@predictwind.com, and I'll give you a hand. To cancel a session, you must be on the boat or DataHub Wi-Fi. You cannot cancel a session off the boat in the app because it won't stop the DataHub. There is a kill button under Settings > DataHub Connection.

Frustrating!!!

It worked when I first used it. Many updates later, seems to get worse all the time. I’m a pro user and this is beyond frustrating. Customer service also not good. Just some AI that keeps giving me the same info like updating to the latest version of the datahub software or deleting app and reinstalling… which I’ve done numerous times and app still doesn’t work! They get all the data they want, and nothing in return. Not happy.

Hi LifelongSailor, sorry to hear you're experiencing some frustration with the app. While our FinAI is great at quick-fire answers, it isn't perfect, so there is always an option to click the button and Speak to a Person.
