If I could give this zero stars I would. This is the most worthless app I’ve ever used. Felt like a scam it was so bad. DO NOT GET THIS
Could be so much better.
Good points: showing the mountains, country boundaries, plate locking. Bad points: poor zoom resolution, not enough information. Would like a key to the colours on the globe, indication of climate and information about evolution of life and other developments at each time period.
Do not buy
Too basic and no update on UI, it lags and it’s clunky. Too expensive for what it is.
Gold standard for plate movement and topography
I am a geologist who studies the history of the earth. Date from hundreds of sources are incorporated into these maps. For years the maps were only shared within the geoscience community and were rather expensive. To have them available in the public domain for such a low price is great.
Don’t waste your money
If you want to see images from great distance of ice on earth you can probably get that for free on google. Not was to use and glitches back to Africa every time you tap.

Thanks for the feedback! You can pinch to see things closer. If you double-tap, the map resets to 0N and 0E to reset the globe's orientation. I'll see if I can work out an alternative system for resetting the globe

Great, and just half the story
I just discovered Dr Scotese's maps and was delighted to get the app so I could look at the movements at the poles. The time line is great and being able to lock onto a particular location or continent is very informative.
The app only goes to 201 MYA! If you want the formation of Pangea from the Cambrian, you must buy another App. The app would have been rated 5. As it only provides a half the story, the rating is half.

A fun visualization gizmo
Ancient Earth, as it's subtitle suggests is a great way to help a layperson (such as myself) visualize the breakup of Pangaea. It's also great fun to play around with and discover interesting little nuances of Earth's global geological history. While the app is rather expensive, when I consider the amount of work it borrows from its parent project (the PALEOMAP project) and the sheer novelty of seeing those maps as a time-shiftable, rotable globe, I am happy to spend that money. Caveat emptor.
I'm holding back on the full five stars as the interface is rather fiddly. (E.g. it's rather easy to wind up tilting the globe ninety degrees when attempting to rotate forty-five degrees, and then having to perform a multitouch re-tilt which only works under mysterious circumstances.)

Way better than static flat maps
I was delighted to find this very clever app. For a couple years, I had been using the series of maps available on the PaleoMap Project online. This app has turned flat maps into a navigable globe. So much easier to use and to visualize and illustrate changes over the last 200 million years.

Great app--Steep Price
This is a useful app for getting a overall feel of how Pangea was broken up. I found it very useful for my Earth History class is college. My only complaint is the price. Ten bucks just to show the BREAKUP of Pangea, ten I have to shell out another 10 dollars for a different app that shows the FORMATION of Pangea. This needs to be one comprehensive app showing the entire tectonic history of earth. I know the developer worked hard on this app but he is not going to move many sales with this kind of sales scheme.

I've been looking for this type of tool for years! It is an awesome app, and if you like exploring the ancient earth: prehistoric deserts, seas, ice caps, land-bridges, and continents constantly altering, then this is the app for you! You can even pinpoint your current location! Worth it for anyone who is interested into ancient earth.
