APRS Connect - Radio Messaging

APRS Connect is an APRS client built around messaging. Conversations are threads, not a wall of packets, and everything it puts on the air is visible before it goes. FREE OVER APRS-IS. PRO ADDS THE RADIOS Free to install and use over APRS-IS. APRS Connect Pro, a subscription, adds radio channels, the IGate and digipeater, the ISS, offline maps, radar, track export, extra beacons, capture replay, retry when heard and mobiles nearby. Lapse and nothing is deleted or goes off the air. WORKS WITH YOUR RADIO (PRO) • Bluetooth LE KISS TNC — a Mobilinkd TNC4 in LE mode, or a B.B. Link • Audio modem — no TNC: a cable to the radio, and the app decodes and sends AFSK itself • Network TNC — KISS over TCP: Direwolf, or a TNC on your network • APRS-IS over the internet IGATE AND DIGIPEATER (PRO) • Your phone as an IGate: radio traffic to the internet, and messages back out for stations your radio has heard • A fill-in or wide-area digipeater that stays quiet when another already repeated the packet • A coverage map of everywhere you have provably reached a digipeater MESSAGING • One thread per station, delivery state read off the air: queued, transmitted, digipeated, acked or failed • Automatic acks, a retry you can stop, long messages split and rejoined • Retry when heard (Pro): a failed message goes again when its station is next on the air • Bulletins in their own room; mute, archive and block NETS AND GROUPS • ANSRVR groups become rooms: #APRSThursday, an ARES net, a club group — its traffic in one conversation • Join by name, renew before it lapses, browse the directory, see who is on tonight APRS OTA • Chase ops over APRS-IS, the position-report rule checked for you; host one from a radio SERVICES ARE AN API. THIS IS A FRONT END TO IT Each APRS service gets a screen: the SMS and email gateways, WXBOT, WHO-IS, QRX and more. Pick an action and the app writes the command, shown before it goes. THE ISS (PRO) • The space station on the map from its orbit, the next passes with an alert, a beacon that waits for a pass, and VIA ISS marks on repeated packets MAP, AND OFF THE GRID • Vector map with real APRS symbols, station trails, objects and weather • Viewed tiles redraw offline; whole regions download with Pro • Filter by age, by RF or internet, by pinned stations, or by VIA ISS • Mobiles nearby (Pro): a notification when a moving station comes into range STATIONS AND PACKETS • Every station heard, with distance, bearing and how long ago; pin the ones that matter • The radio behind each station, weather and telemetry charted, Mic-E decoded • Every packet decoded field by field, with raw frame and hex dump YOUR DATA IS A FILE YOU CAN READ • Backup is plain JSON; the packet log exports as NDJSON and replays through the same parser • A station's track leaves as GPX, or as KML for Google Earth MAKE IT YOURS • Beacon profiles — your station, and with Pro a second SSID, a fixed object or a vehicle — with Smart Beaconing or a fixed interval • Arrange the tab bar yourself; beaconing continues in the background NEW ON IPHONE A young iOS release, lightly field-tested. If something misbehaves, feedback is one tap away. YOUR LICENCE, YOUR RESPONSIBILITY An amateur radio licence is required to transmit; receiving needs none. Everything it puts on the air goes out under your callsign and is your responsibility — including beacons on a timer and acks it sends for you. Operating within your national regulator's rules is on you; in the United States that is FCC Part 97. The app does not verify your licence, callsign or privileges. APRS carries no encryption, and encrypting amateur traffic is generally prohibited — treat everything you send as permanently public. Do not rely on it for emergencies: it is best-effort, and messages are lost routinely.
