About
ArterialPulse turns a phone in a cup-holder into a corridor travel-time study tool. Drive the corridor, tap START — that's it. Auto-direction reversal, length validation, and cloud sync mean your data is right before you get back to the office.
Built by Rhythm Engineering for traffic engineers and signal-timing consultants who do before-and-after corridor studies. Replaces the legacy PC-Travel workflow with a phone, a cloud portal, and defensible analytics that hold up to a stamp.
WHAT YOU GET ON THE PHONE
• Driver-glance recording: corridor, direction, run number, elapsed, signals passed, distance, GPS accuracy — at a glance, no taking eyes off the road.
• Auto-direction-reversal: when you turn around, the app finishes the current run and starts the return leg automatically. No driver action required.
• Quick Collect: drive any corridor without pre-defining it. Save it as an NB/SB pair from the post-run review screen.
• Offline-first: your trips are stored locally and synced when you're back on cell or Wi-Fi. Nothing lost to bad coverage.
• Live speed overlay, NEXT-signal hint, and a single mint START button. Designed by signal-timing engineers.
WHAT YOU GET IN THE PORTAL (pulse.rhythm.engineering)
• Study workbench with corridor map, time-space diagram, percentile bands, and per-segment delay breakdown.
• Reliability KPIs: PTI, BTI, LOTTR, CoV — the FHWA standards your reviewers already trust.
• Economic Impact card: dollar-figure delay, fuel, emissions, and stops per average run, plus annualized projection. USDOT and EPA defaults baked in.
• HCM Arrival Type per signal from your Synchro UTDF plans.
• Length-based auto-validator catches bad runs before they corrupt your average.
• Before/after comparison with t-test significance and PDF/CSV export.
• Multi-tenant orgs with role-based access — keep client data separated.
WHO IT'S FOR
City and state DOT signal-timing engineers. Consulting firms running before-and-after retiming studies. MPOs and regional planning agencies. Any team that drives a corridor 6–12 times to evaluate a signal-timing change.
BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD
The app requires an ArterialPulse portal account, which your organization's administrator provisions for you. There is no sign-up in the app, and it is not useful without an account. If your team doesn't use ArterialPulse yet, talk to your organization before installing.
WHAT IT'S NOT
This is not a consumer navigation app. ArterialPulse is for licensed transportation engineers performing corridor studies on behalf of an organization.
DATA + PRIVACY
Your study data goes only to your organization's portal. No advertising. No third-party tracking. Background location is used only while a recording session is in progress. Full policy at pulse.rhythm.engineering/privacy.
