About
Why does the Moon change shape? How did Voyager reach the giant planets? What can we see around a black hole? Start with a question, then explore the scene that helps answer it.
A journey you can take into your own hands
AstroLab’s films unfold inside the app, among the celestial bodies. Follow the story, pause, change your viewpoint and continue your journey. From Earth’s neighbourhood to galaxies, guided discoveries connect what you see with an idea you can understand.
The sky, here or elsewhere
Choose a place and date in the planetarium. Find planets and constellations, follow the Moon and check the night’s observing programme. Change latitude, then look at the sky from other worlds to discover what changes.
Worlds to explore, phenomena to try
Visit planets, their moons, extrasolar systems and the routes of spacecraft such as Voyager and Cassini. Change the pace of time, follow a celestial body, measure distances and choose your reference layers. Interactive tutorials let you experiment with lunar phases, seasons, eclipses and gravity, with levels for exploring further at your own pace.
From stars to large-scale structure
Discover stellar evolution scenarios, systems containing black holes and maps of galaxies. Explanations distinguish observations, models and teaching illustrations, with sources and limitations available inside the app.
Keep a moment from your journey
Save an image or, on compatible devices, a silent video up to three minutes long. Adjust the resolution and choose whether to include information or controls. Add a musical atmosphere to your discoveries; spoken film narration depends on the local voices available on your device.
In English and French. Built-in content is available without an account, advertising or in-app purchases. It is bundled with the mobile app for offline exploration. Place search and online updates require an internet connection.
Custom AI creation of views and films is optional: it requires internet access and your own provider key. Your provider may charge for requests. Some sizes, distances and timescales are adjusted to make the science easier to understand.
