love this bookgame

thanks for the history lesson as well!

Extraordinary Work of Art

This is hidden gem on the App Store, an exceptional use of the app form to humorously recreate the life of a 16th century unlicensed doctor. It is, by turns, witty, sophisticated, thoughtful, and poignant, and contains some of the best writing, voice acting, and original music in gaming.

While the gameplay itself is underwhelming (mainly picking choices with slight guidance), the story and characters are a delight to play through.

A true treasure, and definitely worth your money if you love sly humor, Shakespeariana, or historical fiction.

Funny but also very good

I’m very glad I played this and learned so much.

No way to correct errors. Don’t brush the screen

I accidentally brushed the screen looking at options. No way to undo mistake.

You need a ‘confirm selection’ step. Other way is fun

Fun but flawed

This is a fun little game that’s rather silly in the best possible English way. However while the characters and happenings are entertaining, it fails as a game for lack of any prediction that can be derived as to how my answers will pan out.

Very often you will find yourself choosing something and getting an entirely different reaction than you ever anticipated, removing player agency and making the game less fun than it could be.

Excellent humor. No glitches.

It is a fun and funny game. Not exactly taxing but a familiarity with British history, chiefly affairs of the aristocracy during the late 16th century, and a passing knowledge of European political and religious mores of those times, will aid in your understanding and enjoyment of the game. In any case, the choices you make for Simon with regards to each character, can be played around with in any way you please, and often I found myself making some rather tongue in cheek, simply for the pleasure of eliciting a shocked or peeved reaction - a testament to how wonderfully crafted the various characters happen to be. The game is very well done and without any glitches. For all that, it may not be to your taste. That said, it is - in its way and for its ilk - a gem.

Avis I’m so sorry...

It’s been a while since a game made me cry. Good work yall

Astrologaster is fantastic!

Huzzah for this new game! The lack of interesting fare in the App Store did cause me to involuntarily chunder! Methinks this game is verily most miraculous, innit? Huzzah!

A Real Gem!!!

I just finished completing the game for the third time and have thoroughly enjoyed it each time (although I’m now convinced it is impossible to receive a letter of recommendation from Ricardo Ferraro). The amount and quality of effort that went into this production is amazing! I hope this ap inspires others to create in this same format - and, better yet, Astrologaster 2!!!

You won’t find another game like this

I played Astrologaster twice in a row. I need more! Money very well spent. For anyone trying to decide: this game is story-driven and similar to a choose-your-own-adventure, but you need to use context clues and intuition to make decisions. The story progresses like a play, with a chorus of singers comically narrating each character’s entrance. You move through scenes by swiping to “turn the page” which makes the backdrop fold in on itself like a pop-up book. You have to decide which star reading to use on each patient to treat them. The voice acting talent is excellent. The visuals are beautifully reminiscent of Elizabethan aesthetics. And the story is scandalous and silly. I finished it immediately wanting to know the other outcomes. I love the true historical elements plus the funny tidbits of gossip and conversation. So well done!

Not a game

Once again I have been duped by the App Store’s “game of the day” story. $5 is not cheap for a game so I read the reviews, which all said the game is fun and funny. But..... it’s not a game at all. More like a “choose your own adventure” book.... You sit through some singing an “funny banter” then choose A or B. No way to know if you got it right or wrong, or if there even IS a right or wrong..... after ten or so of these exchanges I can’t seem to find the point of the game. I thought something would happen by now..... lame. Disappointed.

Blackadder 2- The Game!

Oh boy, where to start? First of all, I loved it. If you’re a fan of English comedy a la Blackadder, and English history, get it. Essentially, you play as Simon Foreman and have to give astrology ‘readings’ to 15 different clients, following their stories while attempting to obtain your medical license.
I think the price is fair, for what is an extremely original and unique game, with fantastic voice acting and beautiful animations. The story is interesting and you will likely want to replay, to see what you can change. A heads up- this game takes me about an hour to complete, but I’ve already done 2 replays since buying it yesterday.

What a unique game!

I absolutely loved this game and am glad I came across it on itch.io. I finished it within hours of downloading it. The concept, story& astrological theme is brilliant. The pop up/3d art is so well done. Well worth the $5 spent. I look forward to seeing more like this in the App Store. It’s by far the best game I’ve paid for.

Verily, ‘tis mirthsome!

Playing through this for the second time, as I didn’t quite attain my medical licence. :-)
Would be nice to have text size, font and colour options though. #accessibility 😊👍🏼

Funny

Very witty, a bit cutting at times but lots of wordplay. not a fan of the quizzes though

Entertaining

Delightful game so far, full of subtle humor, but the astrology is often wrong. Clearly the developers think astrology is a joke, but they could have put a little more effort into the planet details, e.g., Uranus, Neptune and Pluto were unknown in 1592, Jupiter is not exalted in Sagittarius, Mars is not exalted in Scorpio, and Mercury is not exalted in Libra, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

Response from developer

Many thanks for bringing these errors to my attention. We will fix these with our next update. If you noticed further mistakes I would love to hear about them, so we can address them as well. We absolutely try to portray Simon Forman's medical practice and legacy as accurately as possible and getting the astrology right is very important to us. My email address is: contact@nyamyam.com

brilliant game!! & a laugh riot!!

This is one of the most delightful games I’ve ever encountered—a marvelous deep dive into Elizabethan England. The dialogue is absolutely hilarious, with great voice acting (the many different British accents are to die for), and a splendid Renaissance soundtrack too, made up of beautiful songs with really funny lyrics about game characters. So much work has gone into this, it’s amazing... Though of course the most important thing is that it’s just a blast to play—I can’t stop laughing! ;)

V1.4 fixed issues on older models

The game is a lot of fun and funny. Very casual game play and great story line. Graphics are wonderful. I had some initial issues with crashing but the very engaged dev team fixed the, within a few days. Thank you!

Response from developer

Hi! Thanks for bringing the issue to my attention. It sounds like this could be related to insuffucient memory. Would you mind try removing all other apps from the background or rebooting your iPad and playing Astrologaster then? Please email me at contact@nyamyam.com so we can help troubleshoot the issue.

Overpriced for what it is

Although funny, I got through it so quickly and when the credits rolled, thought is that it, for $7.99, is that it.

Weird and entertaining

I enjoyed this odd game.
