Interesting setting, very railroaded narrative

The setting for this story was very unique among Choice Games and created interesting conflicts between pro-British and Rebel characters. Unfortunately, these weren't played out particularly effectively once revealed.

Many of the choices seemed false, as if the author knew what they wanted to happen and forced it regardless of the player's choice in various scenarios. This left me feeling frustrated on several occasions and took me completely out of the story.

Too short

As the title says. It's decently written, but far too short to justify the cost of the full deal.

Can I get my money back?

What a loose and scatter brained read this is. The story it's self had potential. The poor character development, among other issues, as well as the execution the story and the readers choices was nothing less than a pointless time killing chore for this reader. Save your cash.

Just no

Short abrupt all endings similar, not there best game

Bored with it.

Bad transition and has a lot of space to improve the setting of the story. I just found myself bored by it. Nothing stimulating enough to keep me going. Maybe someday I'll finish it and see if my view is still the same.

Great story

An excellent interactive adventure. Great to see an Australian steampunk setting. I haven't read Banks's novel but this stands alone. Only criticism is with the engine, not the story, that there's no transcript function.

Fascinating setting and eloquent writing

Pros:
1) The unique steampunk Australian setting provided a nice change of pace from other Hosted Games which generally take place in America or a high fantasy realm. I enjoyed the whole magical metal thing!
2) The writing is very strong. The author vividly describes characters, locations and actions and maintains a consistent tone throughout the story.
3) The main character is not all-powerful! This raises the tension during the various action scenes.

My Wish:
I would have enjoyed more discussion and analysis of why our character should sympathize with the Brits or the colonists.

Overall, a very well-written and enjoyable read!

Cleverly written interactive fiction

I love interactive fiction, and I'm enjoying a change from the traditional strength / dexterity / wisdom / etc. stats.

Great story set in fascinating world

This was my first interactive novel and so I was pretty new to the concept. I played twice, and the second time chose the opposite scenarios just to see what would happen, and I chose different people to see the eyes of the story through. It's fascinating being able to control where the plot goes and it's clearly been well thought out, with so many available pathways to end up in. Victorian London is a world we are all familiar with, but it was when the characters moved to an Australia in tension that I found it more interesting. I enjoyed being pulled into being a part of that history, providing the environment for the choices to fight for Britain, Australia or to stay neutral, and for experimenting with relationships with key characters in the books, particularly siblings. I'll be reading more from this author.

Nothing Good Here

There just isn't any substance here, the romance was rushed and done in one step, the setting wasn't well explained and I couldn't make sense of it, and the story was incredibly short, and when I mean short, I mean god awful. I was done in 15 minutes, and I didn't even figure out what was going on, and no skill was required. Skip this one at all costs.

Very short

Ended very suddenly and seemed very short

Bravo!

I'm new to this Interactive Fiction format, but I will now come back for more. I found the world engaging and imaginative, the choices varied and the author's descriptions of the steampunk Britain and Australia quite visceral.

Offal

This has to be the worst or very near to it. The most boring story.
The weird world it is set in succeeds at making no sense and remain unappealing at the same time.

Wow

This game was Awesome , set in colonial Australia and Steampunk !!
I am a fan of Choice of Games games and this is a great addition to the stable .
