A Classic iPhone App

So glad the developers have revived this classic iPhone clock / alarm app. It is very customizable and offers some unique looks. They were doing "Standby Mode" before Apple ever did!

It was decent

Used this app daily and worked great for the last few years. It just updated and now it’s terrible. It doesn’t work trying to play music now. Only the backup app alarm sounds work. Before the update I could dim the clock to barely on note it auto dims and barely comes off of bright even when the phone screen is dimmed all the way down. I want the old version back.

Hi, and thank you for being a longtime user - I'm really sorry the latest update let you down. This isn't the experience I want for you, and I'd like to get both issues sorted out. Music not playing: It would help me a lot to know: are you using Apple Music or a local/downloaded track, and does the music play when you preview it in the alarm editor? (It would be great if you could send a screenshot of your alarm settings to help@embraceware.com). Clock dimming: I also hear you on the dimming. The new auto-dim isn't going as low as the old manual setting did, and that's a real regression for nighttime use. I'm adding back proper low-end brightness control so you can take the clock down to "barely on" like before. If you're open to it, please email me at help@embraceware.com - I can help right away and make sure your specific setup is covered in the next release. Fixes for both of these are already in progress, and I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to flag them rather than just walking away. I want to earn back that daily-use trust.

App Stopped Working

Does not work on iOS 12

Don’t buy this app! It seems, that the developer is no longer working on it. On my iPhone 7 Plus under iOS 12 the clock does not work. Neither smooth awaking with fade in nor any other function will work. Only a standard bell is ringing at the time, you will wake up. The last post in his blog is from 2018 and announced an update to iOS 11

Приложение не обновлялось 5 лет. Пять долгих лет, Карл! Всё это время я не удалял приложение и пользовался им на старом 4s айфоне с 6 iOS. И вот, наконец, обновили — теперь можно пользоваться на новых айфонах. Молодцы, красавчики!

P. S. Но вот иконку зря поменяли. Надеюсь, вернут прежнюю.

Awaken now works on iOS 11 and has been also tested on iOS 12.

Sad day

It's a sad day. I have to delete this now.

I've been using it for years; I sleep so soundly I need additional alarms to wake up. Awaken was my go-to for several years, but now, on iOS 10, it doesn't even function anymore. You can't enable alarms, and half the UI is broken. It used to be great, but it's time to move on. No updates in almost 4 years.

Awaken is now working with iOS 11 - along with a new app icon and UI refinements.

Unreliable

At first it worked great. But now...it's pretty unreliable. I push the button to on and then save only to go back and check and it's back to off (when setting my alarm). I've had it go off while my phone was on vibrate. I've had it not do anything while I've purposely waited for it to go off. I've deleted and reinstalled it and same thing.

Deleted app from my iPad

When I first downloaded this app several years ago I loved it, but with each OS upgrade the app became less and less reliable until, ultimately, I had to delete the alarm I'd set that morning and create a new one that night for the following morning ... EVERY single day. Finally I got sick enough to delete the app altogether and purchase Nightstand Central, which is MUCH better.

Great as a Home screen digital clock for night time

I’ve never had a problem with the alarm function, but I rarely use this app for that feature anyway.

For me, this app is perfect to give me a nighttime digital clock on my Home Screen, for when I wake up and night - I don’t want a bright light in my face, but I often have to get up, and then find my way back to bed - I only need a small amount of light, and the Lock Screen clock won’t suffice because it doesn’t stay on……it shuts off after a few seconds if you don’t swipe to unlock (or use touch ID).

So I just launch this app before going to bed, and if I wake up and need the little bit of light it produces whilst seeing the time, it’s perfect.

Has great potential, but unreliable

When I first downloaded this app back in 2012 it worked great. I really liked being able to wake up to my own music and to have the music fade in over time. At that time, the app was very reliable. As time progressed and new updates were released, the app has become unreliable. I have arrived late to work and missed several other events because of this app. I would change the alarm time and save it. I would check the alarm several times to make sure the change was saved, which appeared to be. I would then fall asleep thinking the app would wake me up at the new time. Much to my dismay, I would wake up late. After checking the alarm, I would see that the change to the alarm wasn't saved. I have been unable to find any rhyme or reason as to why changes are saved sometimes and not others. At this point, I have reached my limit on frustration and will be looking for a new app.
