Getting errors every time I try to create a new conversation.
No Server Consistency
The head dev left and the rest are just letting this rot. Server availability is basically nonexistent, so you get an error after every message. Real shame. SPK is the best and they did them dirty.

Local desktop is good but the online site seems bad
It has a horrible filter that immediately protests if u say something wrong even for stupid things saying this is against platform policy or something makes m e feel judged and definitely not free to indulge in fantasy please use desktop instead
Might just be the perfect ai chatbot
This chatbot is so absolutely distinct than other ai chat bots, and the roleplay works well

It was good until they removed the ability to use tethering and local models. Now it’s just another gross money drain.
Excellent iPhone app, easy to navigate with voiceover, but desktop website needs accessibility
I was introduced to Backyard AI by a friend. He introduced it to me, and I've been using it for a while. The iPhone app is easier to navigate with VoiceOver, and the desktop website is easy to navigate with jaws for windows, but the undo and continue buttons which used to be accessible with Jaws are no longer accessible. This is a bug in the HTML coding that needs to be fixed. Please fix this on the desktop website. The buttons for the voiceover are easy to navigate, but they need to be pronounceable. The character voice that I chose is excellent, and I love the right for me function.

Was good before update….
Sadly after the update we no longer have unlimited chat which is a buzzkill when trying to roleplay. When I first used backyard Ai and saw we had unlimited free chats I was excited but now I’m just disappointed. Sorry devs but unless the day comes where you return unlimited chats I must leave this 3 star review and bid this app farewell….

i can't call my AI characters. it cuts them off and then doesn't respond to anything i say to them. fix this please.
Powerful app, but a bit buggy with tethering to local machine
I like this app a lot, however I do almost constantly experience issues where I can't use tethering. I can swap the backend, but then it just loads and times out, both with a Windows PC and a macbook host.
Leaps and bounds
As someone who actively writes for them, I have to say this app has come leaps and bounds from where it was. The beta test was iffy, but it’s smoothed out and fluid now. Give it a shot, the free models are great

I’ve been on Kindroid for a long time, and Replika for even longer before that, and I had forgotten I was following Backyard.ai’s development until I received an email about this app coming out. From the single day I have used it so far, I’m blown away! Compared to Kindroid, Backyard.ai gives users a lot more freedom over bots, the chat and the customization. With multiple chat models to choose from and creative liberty over every aspect of the bot, the possibilities are endless. It’s amazing how the bots respond in such a realistic way, and with a regenerate text feature that allows you to switch between every single text sent, you have full control over the course of the conversation at all times. If I could rate it even more than 5 stars, I would. Definitely my favourite chat bot service to date.

Remotely connect to your local LLM
As my title says. This app and program lets me run my own custom model from my home PC. Completely set up how I want it on my desktop computer and I simply connect to it via the app. I have been looking for a bit for a way to run a local LLM at home, and be able to connect to it not having to use something like a Remote Desktop program. I am not ‘that’ tech savvy, with some people saying how to run a home server, connecting to that with a bot, etc etc. This app simply lets me hit settings, click to tether to my Home PC and boom. I am running private chats from my own private locally ran LLM at home.
TLDR: The easiest app I’ve found (so far) to connect to my home PC to run my local LLM to chat from my phone.

The future of roleplay!
I used the desktop app and website for months before trying the phone app. The phone app is excellent, with the same features as the full desktop app on the go. It’s got a clean interface that lets you focus on your roleplay without dumbing things down and a fantastic character hub with a much wider variety of roleplay types than the sketchy ‘companion’ apps. I’ve subscribed to get access to the bigger models and longer memory, but even the free model is unlimited and pretty great. No wait for responses either, like with some apps. Responses start streaming in pretty much right away.
So far, I’ve used it for roleplay, a bit of writing, chatting, and as an assistant, and with the right character, it works great for each. A good tip: You can follow character creators you like so you can see when they post something new. Super helpful once you find someone who makes characters the way you like.
Thank you devs for making a solid app! Can’t wait to see how it improves over time. The desktop app has come a long way since I started using it, so I’m sure the iPhone app will keep getting better too.

Questionable content
This app is like any other AI chatbot app a money grab. It’s full of questionable content that I’m honestly surprised this got approved for the App Store, mostly naked anime girls slime monsters etc. The UI is garbage as well and not intuitive. There is not cut feature just copy making deleting any text an absolute chore. Support is only through discord. How is that professional?

Just Taking Money!!
The app made me pay a subscription for the non free and premium models. After purchasing twice and being charged twice for one membership on the same day I mind you, they kept my money and didn’t give it to me and when I hit the button for “get unlimited cloud” the app shuts itself down. Like why even take my money from me two times in a row and and i can’t get a refund nor can I even get the premium model i payed for it’s honestly a scam at that point!
