Mega useless

Full sun lux should be 20,000 to over 100,000 depending on time and clouds. This app measures 400 in full sun and 50 under a very bright grow light. Totally random

Free light meter for plants, no ads, no in-app purchases

This is amazing. I only wanted a simple light meter for my plants and that’s exactly what this app delivers. All the other plant light meter apps include ads and sign ups and premium versions and it’s exhausting. Thank you, Protean; I am so grateful that you made this free app.

Pretty good

This is a basic, no frills app, but it’s also free (without ads!) and does what it needs to do. All my plants are growing much better since I started using it so I’m pleased with my “purchase”.

Pros:
1. It’s super simple to use, you literally just open the app and point your camera at the spot where you wanna place your plant. (Just try to make sure your phone’s camera is facing toward the light source when taking the reading, see con #2 below.)

2. You don’t need a special sensor or to put any paper over your camera to get it to work

3. No ads, no data harvesting, no requests for your location or enabling notifications

VERY minor cons:
1. Only measures in lux, and I’d love to see an option for foot-candles instead since most PlantTubers seem to prefer it over lux (but you can just divide by 10.8 to convert it)

2. I almost don’t want to say this one because I think it’s safe to say this app isn’t meant for serious gardeners or professionals, but the angle of your phone or which direction you’re facing in relation to the light source can significantly change the result, so I would assume it isn’t accurate enough for more finicky work. But this is just a guess. And like I said, it works pretty well if you just want to make sure your plants aren’t gonna die from lack of light, and I’m super happy with it.
