About
Bee lining is the old woodsman's art of finding wild honeybee colonies: catch a bee at a feeding station, time how long it takes to fly home and back, note its direction — and follow the beeline to the bee tree.
Bee Hunter puts that whole craft on your phone.
AT THE STATION
• Set up a bee line station at your exact GPS position
• Mark your bees by color and time each flight with a one-tap stopwatch
• Capture flight direction with the built-in compass — confirm before you record
• Every flight refines the estimate: directions are averaged, outliers get diluted
ON THE MAP
• Each bee draws a line on the map — color-matched, pointing where it flew, sized by flight time (2–3 minutes ≈ within 100 m, 10 minutes ≈ a mile)
• Where the lines converge, that's your bee tree
• Mark found trees, log revisits over the years, and mark the disappointments too ("oh no, it's someone's hive")
• Navigate off-trail with a straight-line bearing from your position to any tree
BUILT FOR THE BACKCOUNTRY
• Download USGS Topo and Satellite maps for your planned area before you leave — by visible map area or by GPS coordinates and radius
• Everything works with zero cell service: recording, maps, navigation
• Export waypoints as GPX/KML for your Garmin or other GPS apps
YOUR DATA STAYS YOURS
• No accounts, no servers, no ads, no tracking — everything lives in your own private iCloud
• Share individual stations or trees with people you choose, read-only, via Apple's iCloud sharing
• Nothing is ever public
Whether you're reviving a family tradition or discovering bee lining for the first time, Bee Hunter is the field notebook, stopwatch, compass, and map — all in your pocket.
