About
Bereishit is a quiet place to read and listen to the Book of Genesis — in Hebrew and English, side by side.
All 50 chapters, with the Hebrew text of the Masoretic tradition and the classic 1917 JPS English translation. Press Play and a clear voice reads the chapter while each word lights up as it is spoken — in Hebrew, in English, or both. The Hebrew is read at a calm pace, so you can follow every word. Tap any word to hear it alone. Press and hold a word to see what it means.
Every chapter has study notes: a short introduction written for this app, the commentary of Rashi in English, and the classic commentary of Matthew Henry. Most chapters also have a painting from the great museums. The Library follows the twelve weekly Torah portions, from Bereishit to Vayechi. In the reading season, a card shows this week's portion.
Made for comfortable reading: large adjustable text, a warm paper-like page, a dark theme for the evening, and a sleep timer for listening at night. Everything works offline. Nothing to sign up for, nothing to pay, no ads, no tracking.
