What's New in BetterReads

1.35.0

August 25, 2026

Listen along. Many catalog classics now have a public-domain audiobook (via LibriVox). Start from Discover or the book page, or listen along in the reader — audio stays with the chapter you’re on. Look for the headphones badge, or the new Audiobooks shelf. Study. Return to what you learned: companion glossary, words you saved, notes, and highlights, organized by book. Today’s Review uses spaced recall — you reconstruct first, then reveal what you saved. Stories & tracking. Stories now include books you add, important feature news, and new-follower notifications. When you track a book you’re reading elsewhere, Chinese titles can come from Douban and Russian titles from LitRes. Plus: delete a downloaded book from this device (you can add it again later), and finishing a magazine, paper, or similar PDF no longer counts as a book toward your yearly goal — reading time still does.

User reviews

Exceptionally well put together book reader

I would like to complement the Developer on putting together a wonderful application to read classic literature books. First one I opened was the metamorphosis and what a pleasure. I love how. The app explains passages when necessary.

Response from developer

Thank you—this really means a lot. I built BetterReads exactly for that experience: enjoying great works like The Metamorphosis without losing the flow, while still having context when you need it. More classics and features are coming—hope you keep exploring the app and enjoying more classics.

Love the insights

Big help in reading the scarlet letter. Glossaries were spot on. Character web was fun. Would love to see a large collection of books.

No more skim through the pages!

Really cool app to maximize reading pleasure keeping the flow
