It kinda works, I think..

I’d say it works about as well as you do, psychologically. Assuming you’ve found a solid frequency that will (we hope) will maximize synchronization between that exact frequency and your target brainwave frequency.

Moreover, this is some very new and as yet highly theoretical concept, IMO. And the better your headphones are, generally, the better it is likely to work. (Don’t use earbuds. Just… take this one on faith). Like when your math teacher one time, just one, suggests the class “just accept on faith the fact that any number raised to the power of 0.0 will always equal 1.0. Yes, to include all negative numbers as well as all positive.” (And hopefully he is not then lynched for heresy).

I’m quite unconvinced it is worth what the developer sells the app for, even at the (eventually) cheapest price based on a year’s subscription paid initially, not “just” month-to-month.

It’s Gone Downhill

I used to like the app but not anymore. I used it for years to help drift off to sleep or as part of my meditating. I paired the binaural beats with rain sounds and it was perfect. But now every time I open the app it insists I pay for it when what I need is free. I did try the paid version, I was charged but was never given premium access. There was no one to contact so Apple just refunded me. Surprisingly, I paid about £2.99 (i think) and that was for lifetime access, just a few days after Apple refunded me the price jumped to £4 or £5/month 😱

The rain sounds are now “premium”, which is rather annoying. I’m guessing whoever made the app ended up selling it or something because all it wants is paid users. I’d happily pay for something if I could benefit from the premiums services but not at the cost they want.

Response from developer

Thank you for being a longtime user and for taking the time to share such thoughtful feedback. We’re sorry for the frustration this caused. Our goal with the recent update was to introduce a new Premium tier for the new functionality we’d built while preserving the existing experience for our longtime users. Unfortunately, software is complex, and it appears some functionality was unintentionally affected during the transition. We sincerely apologize for the disruption. We believe those issues have now been resolved. Rain has been restored as a free option for everyone, along with two ocean soundscapes, so users can experience more of the soundscape library. If you’re still experiencing anything different, we’d genuinely appreciate hearing from you so we can investigate further. We’re also sorry to hear about your purchase experience. That’s certainly not the experience we want anyone to have. Regarding pricing, we’ve tried to strike a balance that allows us to continue maintaining and improving the app while remaining competitive with similar apps in the market. We know not everyone will agree with where that balance lands, and we truly value hearing different perspectives. If you have ideas or feature requests, we’d love to hear them. You can submit feedback or upvote ideas from other users here: https://binaural.upvotyfeedback.com/ Thank you again for supporting the app over the years. Feedback like yours genuinely helps shape where we take it next.

App was perfect

The app was perfect until they updated it and now it’s completely different and useless. It was free and now you have pay to use it. Wish I had never updated it. Oh well, find something different.

FAQ

What are binaural beats and how can they help?

Binaural beats are auditory illusions created by playing two slightly different frequencies, one in each ear. This stimulates the brain to perceive a third, phantom beat at the difference between the two. They are believed to help users relax, meditate, sleep better, or improve concentration by influencing brainwave activity.

What features does this app offer?

The app generates binaural beats with customizable frequencies, includes a sleep timer, and allows mixing in rain sounds. It also integrates with the Health app to log 'Mindful Minutes' and offers extensive control across various Apple devices and accessories. Users can also personalize the app's appearance.

How much does the app cost?

The app is available for free with an option for a premium subscription. The premium subscription is required for unlimited access to all binaural frequencies, an ad-free experience, and exclusive content. Specific pricing details for the subscription are not provided in the description.

What devices is this app compatible with?

The app is designed for iOS devices and offers extensive control from Siri, Shortcuts, Apple Watch, Control Center, and the Lock Screen. It is also available for Mac. Headphones are highly recommended for the best experience.

When should I use this app?

This app is ideal for use when you want to relax, meditate, fall asleep, or concentrate. It can also be used as a noise machine with its rain sound feature. It is important not to use the app while driving or operating heavy machinery.
