This is incorrect. The data is read via NFC. However, the chip does not contain any more information than the visual counterpart. The difference is that the chip data is read digitally and is cryptographically verified - it cant be cloned or modified. The purpose of the photo capture is to derive the key needed to read the chip. This is a security feature on all biometric passports and ID cards. Would you consider updating your review?
Does not work
Tried 3 passports from different eu countries, after scan is complete info is left blank and app does not work

For my US passport I also needed to scan my back cover
The instructions aren’t very good, I did need to hold open the passport and scan the back cover. I was about to give it one star before read somebody else’s review.

Stressed about my passport
I have some wear and tear to my passport, but a bit worried the chip was damaged. But checked a few times and all is well, flying in 3 days so hopefully all will be well then to fingers crossed!.

Other nfc passport apps scan the chip but then fail to read or download GB passport. Shame I can’t use NFC passport for LinkedIn ID process.

I guess those passport reader cannot read chip on passport but only take data from data page. That’s why they must make photo of data page. If not they cannot show chip data.
DELETE IT IMMEDIATELY
it scans successfully and says connected but nothing happens. Does not show information. I am afraid it is sending your personal information to their database for data harvesting and who knows if it will end up in black market. I could be totally wrong but it just made me panic and I deleted immediately, probably too late as they for my passport info by that time.

Why do you require using the camera first? It should be to scan the passport chip directly.

I was worried about travelling after my passport wouldn’t scan at the airport on the way home from my last vacation and was told that it was due to the chip not being able to be scanned, I travel in 10 days and have been worried I wouldn’t be able to scan my passport due to the chip, I then read about this app online to check if it was the chip, great app

Keep up the great work, showing love from Reddit from a comment 1 year ago. Wanted to check in and show how things were going. This app has potential. Maybe look into a way for users to add their ID’s digitally and then promote the app to local stores, so they can accept this from of ID. I know it’s a long shot, but with the right backing financially this can take off.

Tried my Spanish passport and ID card and it doesn’t work. It works in UK passport but not good enough. READID works perfectly with all my documents.
