About
Identify birds you see and hear. Take a photo, or let your iPhone listen to one singing, and find out what it is, even without signal. Every new bird becomes an illustrated stamp in your album, postmarked with the day and place you first saw or heard it. Collect every bird you find.
Peep is for anyone who has wondered "what bird is that?" at the feeder, on a walk or on a trip. No ads. No tracking.
IDENTIFY BY PHOTO
• Take a photo, or pick one from your library. Where and when it was taken help narrow it down.
• Answers start with the birds that live where you are at that time of year, so they fit your backyard, not the whole world.
• Not sure which it is? See the best matches next to your photo, and choose.
• No signal? Photo ID still works, right on your iPhone.
• Already know the bird? Search about 11,000 birds. Search forgives typos and understands plain descriptions like "small yellow bird with black wings."
IDENTIFY BY SOUND
• Hear a bird you can't see? Open Heard it and point your phone toward the song. Your iPhone identifies the bird by its song in a few seconds, with no signal needed, and stops listening on its own once it's sure.
• Not sure? See the birds it might be, and choose.
COLLECT STAMPS
• Every species you see or hear becomes a stamp. Nearly every bird in the US and Canada has its own illustration.
• Its first sighting gets a postmark: FIRST SEEN for a photo, FIRST HEARD for a song. See and hear the same bird, and its stamp carries both.
• Your stamp collection holds every bird you've found, and you can narrow it to your backyard or this year.
• Every sighting has its own page, with your note and photo.
• Share a bird as a stamp, a sticker, a postcard or a whole album page. Places are never more exact than the town.
• Pick a profile picture from a set of painted portraits.
SEE WHAT'S AROUND YOU
• Find out how common each bird is where you live, from everyday visitors to rare finds, and whether it's here right now.
• See the birds usually around you at this time of year, and which ones you've found.
• Cards on your album page tell you which birds are arriving near you, with facts about them.
LEARN ABOUT EACH BIRD
• Species pages show length, wingspan and weight, the oldest known bird of its kind, and its long-term population trend.
• Facts come from U.S. government wildlife agencies and research data, with links to every source.
KIND TO BIRDS, AND TO YOUR PRIVACY
• Peep never plays bird calls. Playing recordings can stress birds, especially at nesting time.
• Locations are rounded to about 1 km, and places only ever show by town or county. Where sensitive species were seen stays hidden.
• Photos are used to identify the bird. Songs are identified on your iPhone, and your home spot never leaves it.
• No account needed. Sign in with Apple is optional, to back up your birds and sync them between iPhones. You can delete your account in the app at any time.
• No ads, and Peep doesn't track you.
PEEP PLUS
• Peep is free, with a few photo identifications a day. Song ID, adding birds from the list, the albums, sharing and backup are free and unlimited.

Peep covers the birds of the United States and Canada.
How common birds are, and when they're around, comes from the eBird Observation Dataset, shared through GBIF.org under CC BY 4.0.
