About
Keep a real birding journal on your phone. Heron records what you saw, where you saw it and what the weather was doing, then turns those entries into a life list that grows every time you go out.
LOG A SIGHTING IN SECONDS
Pick the species, set a count, and save. Each entry holds the date and time, a place label, optional coordinates, a weather condition, and free-form notes for behavior, plumage or company. Edit or delete any entry later.
YOUR PATCHES
Birders return to the same places. Create a patch for the backyard, the marsh boardwalk, the ridge trail, give it an icon, and assign sightings to it. Each patch shows how many visits you have logged, how many distinct species it has produced, and a per-species tally. Filter any patch by spring, summer, fall or winter to see how it turns over through the year.
IDENTIFY BY SHAPE AND SOUND
Saw something you could not name? Narrow the guide by silhouette family, by size class, and by the habitat you were standing in. The candidate set updates as you tap. Choose a candidate to hear its song mnemonic spoken aloud, the way birders have always learned calls, from a barred owl's "who cooks for you" to a Carolina wren's "teakettle teakettle". Playback is generated on the device.
BUILT-IN SPECIES GUIDE
Forty North American birds, each with common and scientific name, family, typical habitat, size class, conservation status, breeding and wintering range, and a short field description. Search by common or scientific name, or filter by family, habitat, size and status.
YOUR LIFE LIST
A running count of distinct species observed, with the date of your first record and total individuals for each. Newest sightings surface on the home tab so you can see today at a glance.
QUIET BY DESIGN
No account to create, no feed, no ads. Entries, patches and the guide live on your device and work with the phone in airplane mode, which is where most good birding happens anyway.
Bird Watching Log: Life List requires a Pro unlock to log a sighting. Pro opens the whole app: unlimited sightings with date, place, coordinates, weather, count and notes, the full life list with first-record dates and totals, custom patches with visit and species tallies and season filters, the identification helper that narrows by silhouette, size class and habitat and speaks each song mnemonic aloud, and the full offline guide to forty North American species.
