Couldn’t register

Kept telling me my username was already in use no matter what I entered. Gave up in frustration. Shame because I really would have liked to participate.

Response from developer

Sorry you've had trouble registering - you should find that the username checker is working OK now, so this may have been a temporary issue. Alternatively, you can sign up for Birds in Greenspaces online at bto.org, then use those same details to login. If you already have a BTO account for our other surveys, you can login with the same details (you don't need to re-register). Please also consider emailing greenspaces@bto.org if you need any help with accessing or using the app.

Love it!

Fantastic little app, straightforward to use and with gorgeous animations

Impossible to Get In

I really wanted to participate but the app has proven literally impossible to get into. Registration from within the app does not work ('Continue' button in the personal details page remains inactive despite all the fields being filled in) - and upon registering in the browser on the BTO.org website I can successfully use the credentials for logging out and back in on said website (so they are definitely correct), but the app's login screen keeps throwing up 'Incorrect username and password combination', with the help link suggesting a nonsensical theory of time being wrong on my phone 😫
Disappointing.

Response from developer

Sorry you're having issues getting into the app - please consider emailing greenspaces@bto.org with more details so we can solve this. When logging in, make sure you're using your chosen User ID - not your email address. If you've forgotten it, you can see it when you log on to the website (in MyBTO). For security reasons, talking to our server requires the time on your device matches the time 'on our end' - it's rare that it's out of sync, but it does happen sometimes, and being just a few minutes out will cause your login attempt to get blocked. When registering in-app, if you pick your address using the postcode search, but 'continue' is still disabled, try tapping to enter the address manually instead. County and Country are both required, so you might find one of these didn't get picked up correctly from the lookup (it might not have been an exact match).

Has too many problems

I want to participate but am driven crazy by the app. First it was difficult to register but more annoying is trying to select sites. It adds a site I merely wanted to locate and there seems to be no way to delete sites I don’t want or can’t survey.

Response from developer

Sorry that you're finding the app difficult to use - we've tried to make it as simple as possible, and there's additional guidance for using the app available at bto.org/greenspaces, on the 'Taking part' page, that we hope is useful. Please also consider emailing greenspaces@bto.org if you need any help with the app or submitting your records. By default, all Greenspaces UK-wide are visible on the map and searchable by name. When you pick a Greenspace, tapping the star next to the selection will add it to your 'My Greenspaces' list (and tapping again will remove it, if pressed in error). You can use this to curate a smaller list of the Greenspaces you regularly visit, and reach them quicker for future lists with the 'My Greenspaces' button near the top.

Perfect

You log in with your BTO account (or set up a new one). This app is really easy to use, you can add bird sightings by typing in the species. It doesn’t have ALL of my local greenspaces available, but it has the ones I frequently visit.
