Blackletter: Redact & Scan PDF

Every other redaction tool draws a black box over the text. The box hides the words; it does not remove them. They are still in the file, selectable underneath. Blackletter overwrites the covered pixels and re-encodes the page, so the redacted content is gone from the exported document. Built for attorneys and paralegals producing documents in US litigation, and it all runs on your device. SCAN OR IMPORT Capture pages with the camera, or import an existing PDF. Imported PDFs are flattened to images on the way in, so hidden text layers and annotations do not survive the import. CROP AND STRAIGHTEN The scanner gives you free-corner cropping and de-skew on every page, so a document photographed on a desk comes out square and readable. DESTRUCTIVE REDACTION Draw a box over what has to go, tap an identifier the app has already found, or work through assisted mode. The pixels underneath are overwritten in the stored image and the file is re-encoded on export. Nothing is left beneath the box to select, copy, or recover. IDENTIFIER DETECTION Blackletter flags likely SSNs, dates of birth, and account numbers on the page and offers to redact them, so you review a marked page instead of hunting for PII line by line. You confirm every redaction before it is applied. BATES NUMBERING Number a production sequentially. Set the prefix, the suffix, the starting number, how many digits it pads to, which corner it sits in, and the margin. EXHIBIT STAMPS Stamp pages from the built-in exhibit presets or with your own custom text, placed where you want it on the page. REDACTION LOG Every redaction is recorded with its page, its position, and the legal basis you assign to it. Export the log as its own file to support a privilege log or a redaction index. FILING-READY EXPORT Export a PDF with a searchable text layer rebuilt from the already-redacted image, so the text can only describe what is still visible on the page. Redacted content cannot come back through the text layer. PRIVACY There are no servers. Documents, redactions, and logs stay in the app's storage on your device. There is no account to create and nothing is uploaded. The whole workflow runs offline, so sensitive material never leaves your hands. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. Monthly and yearly subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before that period ends.
