Awesome
Forest but more focused (unironically). Keep it up!
PERFECT, love love love
The UI for every part of this app is super intuitive and there is absolutely nothing added that is unnecessary. This gives it a super cool minimal vibe that I really appreciate. I’m coming from the app Forest which recently changed its UI to something dense and cluttered, so this app is like a breath of fresh air. The app starts on the timer screen and you can swipe to the right for the menu (settings like time, week start, app block list) or to the left for your garden, or forest if you will, of all your trees. You can sort this by all time, week, month, or year. Each tree is in a little hexagon and you can drag them around to rearrange freely.
The timer duration is set by dragging a tiny circle around a larger circle that goes around the icon of the tree. A settings menu on the timer screen allows you to toggle countdown mode or open session (count up) mode, to toggle “Block” mode, and to choose a tag. There is a very generous 15-second Cancel feature that starts counting down as the timer does so you can cancel if you need to without affecting your plant rate, if that’s something you care about. When planting is done, there are no screens to click through. It goes back to the regular timer screen, says Session Complete where it usually says the selected duration, and says Well Done where it usually says Start. When you tap well done the text changes back to start and the timer duration comes back so everything’s ready and no buttons or UI elements move around. I tip my hat to this specific design choice.
The app sends one notification when your tree is done growing in countdown mode, if you have notifications on. There are no subscriptions, the only in-app purchase is an option to buy the dev a coffee for $4 which unlocks a coffee tree, which I plan on doing when I can afford it.
Live activity, superb. Just the tree icon, the tag name (or nothing if there’s no tag set), a digital countdown, and a visual horizontal bar if it’s in countdown mode that gets smaller as time passes. In open session mode, the live activity is an icon of the tree.
Your stats are tied to your device and all data is local. This means no cloud backup (unless you use iCloud backup on your whole phone) but it’s a blessing. The stats page is useful and a cool thing to look at, but at the end of the day I don’t want to grow attached to it or get heartbroken if I switch phones and lose it. No profile, no name needed, no picture, no friends list, which i prefer as friends lists on focus apps tend to be just another social element (distraction) to boost engagement. HOWEVER, i would not be upset if a feature like this was added because based on my experience with the app so far, it is clear that focusing with a few silly trees in a bare minimum interface is the main intention of this app and I’d trust the dev to do a friends list with gravitas.
Suggestions:
It would be cool if the graph in the stats page was color coded by tag color, and multiple lines showed in the “All” view so I could get an idea of which things I spent more or less time on, but it’s not necessary at all. It would be kind of hard to cram a bunch of graph lines in that space if someone has a lot of different tags, so I understand the way it currently is. It would also be cool if the live activity in open session mode displayed a digital count of the time going up so I could see how long I’ve focused for at a glance.
Great app! And thanks Lola for designing the trees lol
