Sailboat racer

I have a TackTick Racemaster, which costs at least $700 or more than a hundred times as much as the HullSpeed app. Yet I find the capabilities of HullSpeed to be indispensable for sailboat racing and just navigating using the moving map feature. I particularly like being able to have speed in 0.01 increments displayed on my iWatch. Speed must be displayed in FRACTIONS of a knot per hour to be useful when racing. Most speed apps only display multiples of 1 knot or mile per hour which is not precise enough. Having a log of the race (voyage) is fun too. Even if you never race you gotta have this app for navigation.

Thank you for your kind review! I built the app to use myself when sailing J80s in Boston Harbor, and I love hearing that other sailors are using it and finding it useful as well. I made it not only because I was sick of subscriptions but like you said, I wanted precision and legibility on the water. It wasn't intended for navigation but I frequently use the distance projection feature to estimate how far I am from shore (remember to use a real chart when trying to avoid shoals etc). A must-have for Boaters!

Hull Speed is a great app for anyone who spends time on the water. It’s easy to use and really helpful for planning boating trips, tracking your time on the water, and getting useful information for your boat. Simple, practical, and something I’ll definitely be using throughout the boating season. Highly recommend it for fellow boaters!

It is a good and well priced app. The only problem I have I cannot swipe to the third screen on iPhone 13 mini. It keeps scrolling the map on 2nd screen instead.

Thanks for letting me know about this - I hadn't tested on the Mini. I will look into it. On my iPhone 17 pro I can scroll to the 3rd screen by tapping on the speed/distance display or the map color legend. I assumed you could do so on the mini as well. Feel free to send me an email and I can send you a beta version to test. EDIT: I tested this on a simulated iPhone 13 mini and it works exactly the same as other devices. To navigate between the screens tap and drag on the legend at the bottom, not the map itself. If you need more help feel free to reach out to me and I can definitely help you with this.

This app is super useful. I love that I can get basic speed on my watch and a few other goodies without a subscription. Yay for Hull Speed!

A super accurate and reliable speedometer

This app works great when kayaking even though it’s designed for sailing. It’s better than the app I was paying a monthly fee to use.

Exactly what I was looking for! Accurate speed and course on the Apple Watch, no silly subscription, just a clean one-time purchase. And it works amazingly well! Kudos to the dev for building a truly useful Apple Watch app without a lot of cruft or an unnecessary subscription.

Just what I was looking for

This is just what I wanted.
A simple straightforward speedometer I could run on my Apple Watch, that won’t disappear when the screen locks, and doesn’t try to do too many fact things I don’t need. The live activity is a nice touch too. Best of all no subscriptions.
