What's New in Book Catalog

1.2

October 31, 2026

Build your personal collection with a clear five-book preview, shared across scans, manual entry, barcodes and imports. Pro unlocks unlimited collection building. The preview no longer resets daily. Existing books remain accessible. Large imports can preview their first new books before you upgrade. Cancelling an upgrade keeps your entry or reviewed matches ready to continue. Shelf Scan now finds far more of your books. Each spine is read on its own, so neighboring books mix far less often. Misreads, price stickers and publisher names now block far fewer matches. Titles missing from Open Library are also looked up in Apple Books. Spines the catalog could not check show Not checked with a Retry button. Add by hand can search the catalog by title or author. New installs start with an empty library.

FAQ

How does Book Catalog scan shelves?

Book Catalog uses your device's camera to photograph shelves. It then recognizes titles and authors from the spines, flagging uncertain matches for your review before anything is added to your collection. Photo recognition occurs on your device, with only recognized words and ISBNs sent for matching.

What are the limitations of the free version of Book Catalog?

The free version allows you to save your first five books using any entry method. You can also preview imports and use basic reading tracking tools. The preview does not reset daily, and saved books remain accessible.

What features are unlocked with Book Catalog Pro?

Book Catalog Pro unlocks unlimited collection building, advanced collector fields (first edition, condition, value), a duplicates report, and export options for CSV and insurance PDFs. It also enables full-library imports and whole-shelf batch additions.

What are the subscription options for Book Catalog Pro?

Book Catalog Pro offers a weekly subscription at $4.99 with a 3-day free trial, a yearly subscription at $24.99 with a 7-day free trial, and a lifetime purchase option that does not renew. Prices are displayed within the app before purchase.

How is my library data stored and synced?

Your library is stored on your device and can sync through your private iCloud database. No separate account is required for this functionality. The app also supports Dynamic Type and VoiceOver for accessibility.

Can I track my reading progress with Book Catalog?

Yes, you can track reading status, page progress, reading sessions, and quotes for your saved books. You can also set an annual reading goal and monitor your pace, streaks, and reading statistics, even without the Pro subscription.

Does Book Catalog have ads?
