Book Retriever Scanning App User Reviews

The potential is AWESOME

PLEASE, PLEASE invest in this app.
The interface is nice, and I LOVE how quick and easy it was to add titles.

What needs MAJOR work is the development of the app. If you put the time in, you’re going to have something special.

LISTEN to the teachers and HEAR their suggestions, then add them.

Make a separate student portal.

Make the home screen customizable (I would like to have them reflect the shelves in my classroom - I made each shelf a “location” and they are in order alphabetical order, THEN in that area, by author’s last name.

Make sure that the location AND author’s last name is on the label.

FIX THE APP!!!!
PLEASE!
I will keep my subscription for a year because I like it. But if you don’t upgrade it, I will dump it.

Again, I like it, but it needs WORK.
I’ll be happy to re-review it when you upgrade it.

Updates Needed

Hi, are you all ever going to update this app that hasn’t been fixed or tweaked in a year? For 36$ a year, I truly do expect more. Like being able to manually add books that the scanner can’t add from an iPad or phone rather than going to get a computer to type everything in on a separate page? Also, is there a way students are able to get access to see what books are available for them to check out? I don’t want to provide my log in credentials just for them to be able to view what we have in our library and what we dont.

Meh

I like the online version of this app, but I am not a fan of this at all. I feel like the developers tried to cut corners to make it easier on mobile, but it just stinks. Many of the books are not recognized, or the ISBNs are not recognized, which requires manual input. I cannot access how many copies of one book I have easily, and when I scan items in, there isn’t the option, as of right now, to select how many copies I have. There isn’t that option online either until AFTER I enter the book, which is frustrating when I have 6 copies of one book. I don’t think the $36/year is too bad, but I definitely expect more. As a teacher, I already have a limited amount of time, so I want something that is quick, easy, and reliable. There is definitely room for improvement here.

Exactly what I was looking for

I’ve been looking for an easy way to maintain my class library, and this seems to be exactly what I need. I’m not thrilled with the cost, but this is cheaper than losing the books, so I’ll deal with it. I’m also a little bit worried about the app or online version changing down the road and losing all the time I’ve spent putting in my class library. Apparently that happened to people with the old version of the app, so it doesn’t exactly inspire confidence. So far, so good, though.

Doesn't Scan. At all.

I've been trying to wrestle with this app for hours and it will not scan ANYTHING. I even tried on different devices and it scanned 1 book and promptly shut down. It would be easier for me to create my own app at this rate.

Waste of time

I haven't been able to scan a single book. I would have to manually enter all my books if I were going to use this. The dashboard is awesome, so I'm bummed that something as simple as scanning a book to add it to my library prevents me from using this application.

Very disappointed

I lived the original app. It made it so easy to check out books. Not interested in paying a huge fee every year and especially disappointed the app was discontinued in the middle of the school year. Very inconsiderate of teachers.

This App is a Rip-Off!

The old app was only $7.99 and I used it for three years. This new app is $36/year and it doesn't even have all the benefits of the old app. I will be demanding a refund!

frustrated!

New app is terrible. Can't scan a book back in unless I know who borrowed it! My Kindergareners just drop the book in the book return box when they bring it back and I used to just scan them all in at the end of the week. Now I need to keep a hard copy of who borrowed which book so I can go to that students name and scan it back in. What's the point of the app if I have to also write each borowed book down?
Plus, at least half of the book in my library won;t scan out in the first place. App won't recognize the ISBN number. Worthless!

So sad

I am so sad this app does not work like the previous versions. What is the point of the app if you can't check out and in books? I too had A TON of books scanned and loaded and nothing transferred. Disappointed

A mediocre app getting worse

I have used book retriever for 3 years. I really enjoyed the ease of it and hoped improvements would continue to be made. My old app no longer works so I downloaded the new one. I'm trying the new online program (although a yearly subscription is ridiculous) it should be a one time purchase.
The new app is not user friendly or intuitive. I can't scan books to check them out. Which is the whole point. As an educator I have more important things to do than mess with your app. And without getting a pay raise for 3 years it's ridiculous to pay for this garbage. I will probably switch to a new app when my trial runs out. Great job ruining a good app that could have helped so many teachers.

This new version is the worst -- I'd give it 0 stars if I could!

I loved the old Book Retriever. I'd used daily for the past four years and it worked PERFECTLY.
Apparently it was bought by a company that put out this new version-? Well, it's awful.
I can't checkout the books unless I put it into student mode -- I'm the only person who checks my books out. I don't want my students to have that capability.
It's clunky and I can't even find all the data my old app used to provide me; a list of my library, student lists, levels of books, lists of checked out books...
I hate this new one. I HATE IT.
To add insult to injury: it costs $36 a year. The old one was free.
I'm dumping this product.

Teacher

I was SO disappointed to find out the hard way that the original app was bought out by another company, leaving hardworking teachers like myself in the lurch without ANY warning! The 475 books I had already entered into the app had to be transfered to the new app (which is no longer free, but $36/year). I had to reenter 53 books because the system didn't recognize the ISBN numbers! What a waste of my time. The app is nothing like the previous app. I had tons of information that I could access from my phone as I moved about the room or shopped for books. What a bummer! It felt like having the rug pulled out from underneath me.

I've had experience with apps being bought by another company or merging with another company, but I received an email, giving me the courtesy of letting me know what was going to happen, what would change, and WHEN it would happen.

Not a great way to start the school year, Capsa Labs.

Exactly what I was looking for!

Thank you, Thank you, and THANK YOU! I am on a free trial right now, and I can't wait to use this in my classroom. This will give me a peace of mind, and it is easy to use for students. It is not complicated at all! I just wish they had a OS X version of the app so students can use it on a MAC computer. Also, I wish the price was a little cheaper and not 36$ a year. Hopefully they can change it to a more reasonable $20/year price.

Few Books Work

In theory this is a great app. It would really take time off of entering books into the online library. However, the app recognizes very few books, even new ones. This makes the app pretty much useless since I have to manual enter 98% of the books anyways.

I wish it worked

Downloaded this app in hopes of helping me level my library, but I can't login. It won't even give me a chance to sign up or make a username! Complete waste of time.
