Naming your baby is a once-in-a-lifetime decision. Bothnames treats it that way.
TWO PARENTS, ONE PHONE
The hard part is not finding names. It is agreeing on one. Pass the phone back and forth and you each swipe the same set of names in private — neither of you sees the other's choices until you have both finished. Then the app shows only the names you both liked.
If you still cannot choose, the decider runs those mutual likes head to head, two at a time, until one name is left standing. No second purchase, no second account, no sign-up for your partner.
16,423 NAMES, EVERY ONE WITH A MEANING
• India — Sanskrit, Tamil, Marathi and other origins marked
• United States, Britain, Latin America & Spain, Japan
• Pronunciation, origin, and where else a name is carried

NAMES FOR YOUR BABY'S BIRTH STAR
For families who name by the nakshatra, Bothnames works out the birth star from the date, time and time zone of birth — the real calculation, with the Lahiri ayanamsa, done on your phone. It gives you the pada, the syllables that traditionally begin the name, and the names in the book that start with them. All of that is free.
THE FULL BIRTH CHART (UNLOCKS ONCE)
Behind the birth star is the whole janma patrika, the almanac page a family is usually handed on a printed sheet:
• The panchang of the day — tithi, vara, nakshatra, yoga and karana
• Moon sign and Sun sign, both sidereal, with the ayanamsa shown
• Rahu and Ketu placed in their signs
• The ratna — the stone of your baby's ruling planet, with the cheaper substitute the tradition accepts in its place
• Vimshottari dasha, every period and its sub-periods, with dates
TODAY, READ AGAINST THEIR STAR
Follow your baby's star and each day is counted from it — tara bala and chandra bala, with the day's panchang. Worked out on your phone from the date, so there is no limit on how many days you read and no connection needed for any of them.
FREE TO INSTALL
All 16,423 names, every meaning, your shortlist, the head-to-head match and the names for your baby's birth star are free. There is no "unlock the rest of the names" — they are all there the moment you install it.
The full birth chart, the ratna and the daily reading unlock with a single payment, once. No subscription, no adverts, and nothing metered: once unlocked, every chart and every reading is yours for as long as you own the app.
NOTHING LEAVES YOUR PHONE
There is no account, no sign-up, no analytics and no advertising. Nothing you type or tap is sent anywhere. Your shortlist, your matches and your baby's birth details stay on your device, and the birth details are not even saved between sessions.
The one time Bothnames uses the network is the moment you buy the unlock, which Apple handles and which carries nothing about you or your baby. Everything else — every name and meaning, the birth star, the full chart and the daily reading — is worked out on your phone. Put it in Airplane Mode and see for yourself.
