Bowling Average: Score & Spare

Every bowling app counts the same thing: how many pins fell. This one records WHICH pins stayed up — and then works out what they cost you. Tap the pins still standing. That is the whole entry: one tap for a strike, two taps for anything else. From that one extra piece of information the app builds something a score counter cannot. WHAT IT WORKS OUT • Your leave matrix. Every leave you face — 10 pin, 7 pin, bucket, washout, the 7-10 — with how often it comes up and how often you pick it up. • What each one costs. Not an estimate: the app re-scores the game as if you had converted that spare, and takes the difference. Strike and spare bonuses ripple forward, so the real number is usually far bigger than the pins you left standing. • The one thing to work on. The matrix is sorted by pins per game, so the top row is the answer. • The counterfactual: pick up every single-pin leave, and here is what your average becomes. AVERAGE AND HANDICAP • Running average, truncated the way leagues do it. • Handicap from your own basis and percentage — 90% of 220, 80% of 210, or whatever your league uses. • Book average with an establishment threshold, and an entering average until you reach it. • Series totals, scratch and handicap. FIRST BALL OR CARRY Strike percentage and single-pin-leave rate, side by side. Missing the pocket and hitting the pocket without carrying are different problems that need different practice. The app tells you which one you have, and stops there. It does not pretend to fix your release.
