Finally found the best moving app
Response from developer
Thanks so much for the raving review, we built this moving app to be the best moving app and also to be an incredible inventory app after you have completed your move and there is still a "Few" boxes left over. That's another game changer - when you're looking for your xmas decorations...
It’s promising
Now, with that said, I’m writing this review early in the this apps life and I have had a fair share of challenges with it. Some of it has to do with the convoluted way that Apple associates additional email addresses to the actual ‘iCloud’ or ‘Mac.com’ email addresses they let to one’s Apple ID. The developer has attempted to make logging easy and to invite guests to join in on the +moving fun+. What we learned is that using Apple’s +Hide My Email+ alias is not a great idea at this juncture. It’ll cause you a headache.
All that said, I think this app will be the one to top. The others are so convoluted, I’d rather just track things in a paper notebook or an Excel sheet. Hopefully we can get BoxBuddy fully on track, and I’ll update my review and star rating, accordingly.

Thank you — and I'm sorry. You're right, and I want to own it. The invite flow required the second person to accept using the exact email their invite was sent to, so if they signed in with a different address, they'd land in their own empty account instead of joining yours. That's exactly the "hours and hours" frustration you described, and it was our bug, not your mistake. It's now fixed. Version 2.1.6 (live this week) lets an invited member join the main account regardless of which email they use to sign in. If you update and try again, it should just work. On the responsiveness: mail to me never arrived, and that's on me to fix too. Please reach me directly at info@boxbuddy.tech — I'll personally sort out your refund and set your household up with a free year of the Family plan for the trouble. BoxBuddy is a one-person shop, and feedback this direct is how it gets better. Thank you for pushing on it. — Steffen, BoxBuddy
Excellent App for Tracking boxes. Highly Responsive Development Team.
The product is actively being improved, and the development team is exceptionally responsive to user input. If you discover bugs or have functional suggestions, I highly recommend reaching out to their technical support.

Hi there, Steffen here. I'm the founder of BoxBuddy (it's just me behind the app, so your review landed directly on my desk), and I want to start with a genuine thank you. Detailed feedback like this is exactly how BoxBuddy gets better, and you clearly gave the app a real chance. Let me take your points one at a time: Auto-save: You're right, and this one stings because I can picture exactly the moment you're describing — arms full, mid-pack, and the box vanishes. Making box entries save automatically as you go is now at the top of my list. Family plan: Good news — your husband shouldn't need to buy anything. Here's the flow: he downloads BoxBuddy free from the App Store, then instead of subscribing, he accepts your invite (Settings → Family Sharing → Send Invite, or the share link). Once he signs in through the invite, he gets full access under your plan. If that still doesn't work, that's a bug and I want to know immediately. Printing & the QR freeze: We shipped updates this week that touch both areas — please update to the latest version and try again. If barcodes still won't print, email me and I'll troubleshoot it with you personally. Your support email: This is the part that bothers me most. I've searched our inbox, including junk, and I can't find it — I'm truly sorry, because a week of silence is not how we operate. Please resend it to support@boxbuddy.tech with "App Store review" in the subject and I'll respond the same day. And yes — your box inventory is safe. It's stored on our servers, not just your iPad, so it'll be there after your move. Thank you for pushing us to be better. Steffen, Founder
Quirky and parts don’t work.
- I bought the family plan and my husband has an iPad and he can’t log into box buddy or hit it from the web. The link takes him to a page where it wants him to buy the app. He’s on my Apple family plan so I should’ve been able to do it with just a single subscriber, but that didn’t work and now after paying for the family plan it still doesn’t work for two people.
Printing is also a challenge. I could not get any of the barcodes to print, whether print directly or sharing to Acrobat. I can see them on the screen, but they don’t print out . One workaround that worked was taking a photograph of the printout and then printing it out from iPad pictures. Also, when I scan the barcode, it opened up BoxBuddy showed me the box and then froze the app so I had to unload the app to look at anything else .
I see on various sites that many other people are having similar problems to me but BoxBuddy hasn’t fixed it. I wrote an email to tech-support which they advertise response in 24 hours, but it’s been a week and no response.
BoxBuddy sort of works, but not as advertised. You have to be very careful how you use it and don’t expect all the features to be functional. I just hope my box inventory will still be there after I move.

This is a great app!

Thanks so much for your review and trust at the beginning of our journey. We didn't want to use the monthly subscription model, and thought $20 for the App was easier. And we fixed the Zoom and added a bunch more features over the last month. Simply update your app and you are on your way.
