What is BrakeTester used for?

BrakeTester is a performance meter designed to test the braking performance of your vehicle to FMCSA standards. It displays a braking gauge and speed, and stores results for analysis.

How do I use BrakeTester?

Mount your iPhone in the vehicle with the long edge perpendicular to the direction of travel. Press RESET to level the device to the road, then press ARM when ready to begin the test.

What kind of tests can BrakeTester perform?

The standard version performs Service brake tests. Upgrading to the Pro version adds the ability to perform Emergency brake tests.

Can I export my test results?

Yes, test results can be displayed on screen and are stored in a CSV file for easy export. A PDF summary of the test is also created.

Does BrakeTester have a calibration feature?

A calibration check feature is available in the Pro-version to check the accuracy of the accelerometers. The Reset button can also be used to recalibrate the device at any time.

What devices is BrakeTester compatible with?

BrakeTester is available for iPhone and iPod devices.

How accurate is BrakeTester?

The app uses a combination of GPS, accelerometer, and other sensors. Accuracy depends on correct operation and suitable sensor signals. Continued GPS use can decrease battery life.

Is BrakeTester suitable for public roads?

This app is designed for use off-road. Any brake testing should only be performed off the public road network, and you must comply with all traffic regulations.
