About

The same bag of beans, a different cup every time. Usually it comes down to two things: water temperature and grind size. Brew by Bean treats the whole loop as one thing — from photographing the bag to the one word you give it after drinking. ■ Scan the bag The camera reads the roast date, roast level and processing method. It all happens on your device; the photo is never uploaded anywhere. If a bag won't read, type it in — it makes no difference to the result. ■ Tuned to the bean Roast level, processing method and days since roast decide the water temperature and the grind. Light roasts are dense and resist extraction, so the water goes hotter and the grind finer. Dark roasts give up solubles easily, so the water goes cooler and the grind coarser. Fresh off the roast, the bloom runs longer to let the CO2 escape. It isn't an app that just hands you numbers. Pro shows you why each one is what it is, brew by brew. ■ Brew Nine built-in recipes, for conical drippers, flat beds and immersion switches. Pours are shown in grams, and the things that ruin a cup if you forget them — opening the valve, dropping the temperature — are announced with sound and haptics slightly before they're due. A Live Activity keeps the next target on your lock screen. ■ Tell it how it tasted Three questions: sour or bitter, sweetness, body. Sour means under-extraction, so the grind goes finer and the water hotter. Bitter goes the other way. Next time you brew that bean, the corrected recipe is what you get. Answer "just right" a few times and the parameters converge and stop moving. ■ Follow the origins Every bean you brew stays on the map: which countries, which growing regions, how many bags. Bags whose origin couldn't be read are kept as "unknown" rather than quietly dropped, so the count always adds up. ■ What the free version does One bean and one recipe, "Basic". The whole loop runs — scanning the bag, the reasoning, the timer, and the correction landing in your next cup. It isn't a trial, so it doesn't expire. ■ Pro - All nine built-in recipes (the free version has one, "Basic") - The reasoning behind every number - Your complete log, plus CSV export - An unlimited shelf — beans you took off it come back, records and all - Unlimited custom recipes - Flavour tendencies across your origins An auto-renewing subscription, monthly or yearly. Cancel any time from iOS Settings. ■ Privacy No account, no sign-up. Beans and records stay on your device. Label scanning runs on-device and the photo is never saved or sent.
