Amazing app! Well organized

I am happy to use this app it’s got tutorials and manual. If a person fails to use this it’s their own fault they just need to use all the helping materials and watch tutorials. But otherwise it’s an amazing app with a lot of professional functionality.

Great processing and compositing app!

Bricolage 5.0 is awesome. With the addition of spatial stereo and workflow improvements, Bricolage remains my favorite app for image processing and compositing.

Does so much

So many features to explore!

Just wow.

It’s amazing you can do all this on an ipad!!! I’m amazed that a media consumption device can handle nodes and fx! I do wish it had tracking, rotoscoping and a few emitters, but for the price, it’s crazy powerful!

Both apps very buggy and missing critical features but are also surprisingly robust.

In the motion graphix app there is no apparent way to have a video layer as a moving object. This missing feature destroys my workflow.

The bricollage app often loads videos upside down? No obvious node available to correct that issue, or to scale and reposition video layers.

Overall I can make some fun but very glitchy animations.. thank you for you efforts.. I wish it was a more popular app so it would have more drive to get fixed.

Response from developer

We've just released new versions with a ton of stability and performance improvements and a fix for videos coming in upside down sometimes, as well as some great new features. We hope this will improve your experience. To move a video, try the Move, Rotate, Scale node under Transforms.

Still the best!

Latest update makes this better than ever! Fast video and image processing that rivals desktop apps with everything one could want. I've used this since release with excellent results! Thanks so much for the update for my favorite app!

Elegant, easy to use node-based compositing with fantastic results for still images and video. Especially love the stereo nodes. Well worth the cost.

A very serious piece of kit

Must say, this is the business. I work in film Vfx, many years as a 3D and 2d artist, have used many node based programs, was not expecting this to deliver at all.
What you have here is a pocket sized stripped down Nuke (and its not THAT stripped down!)
Once you understand the interface, you’re flying - looking forward to playing with it on the new iPad at work.
Just brilliant!

Good! But?

Ok good. The only app of compositing on Iphone combined with lumafusion! I have a big problem i can’t import from FILES only import photos and video from the Photos App. Can you add that? Very important for me. Thanks a lot

Version 4 adds Files app support!

Green screen broken

Green screen remover doesn’t keep checker pattern, it just turns it black in the final product don’t waste your money on it

Response from developer

Exporting movies with an alpha channel is not supported by the Apple movie exporter, but transparency will be preserved in PNG and GIF files. We’re looking for a workaround for this problem. Thank you for your patience.

It has professional editing, but does not work like a professional app

This app has many great tools for editing. However, it is loaded with bugs. Sometimes, when I create a new project, the video doesn’t even show, only a black screen. Sometimes the effects don’t even work and it crashes. The app is good when it works, but the constant bugs have to be stopped.

Edit: The new update is good but source over using greenscreen remove and move rotate scale is messed up. When you try to scale a greenscreen video using source over, the area that is not part of the greenscreen video turns black and covers the background video. I have used this before without any problems, but it is giving me problems now. Please fix this.

Please let us know how v2.0 is working out for you. If you still have an issue, please use the 'Contact Us' button to describe the problem.

Hope

This is really a unique application with a great functionality. I hope for updates with more parameters and building blocks for more variable image and video manipulation . I like also to see more generators such as bricks, viens,.... so that this application will be able to produce textures and materials like a dream!! Thanks alot

Exports wrong FPS

This app exports videos with one less frame per second then the original video sources. I’ve tried both 24 (23.98) fps and 30 (29.97) fps videos with 1080p resolution. Both videos were rendered at 23.00fps and 29.00fps), resulting in lots of skipping frames.

There are other minor issues/bugs that needs some attention, however the above bug is a showstopper. Literally.

iPad Pro 10.5” , latest iOS 12.2.

This review and score will be edited as soon as this is taken care of.

Dev: Please update me on any status for a fix. Thank you.

Not really usable

Hello, i love node/dataflow programming, i use a lot cycling 74 max, and magic music visuals etc...bricolage is not enough stable to be usable on ipad pro 12,9 2017...i’m sorry about that

hidden gem

it’s 2019 and I only just found Bricolage and its add-ons. where have you been all my iPad life?!

this app is unique in that you can infinitely (presumably) chain and rearrange video effects seamlessly instead of having to render and save a video for one effect just to use it in the next. and the rearrangement of effects is done by dragging and connecting/reconnecting node inputs and outputs to each other — by way of what I’d have called a GUI in 2002, though the term seems too clunky for this.

it feels like I’ve been waiting for this app since 2002, back when I was using Max/MSP/Jitter on my MacBook. this reminds me of that in that it’s refreshing to use for its simplicity once you understand what’s happening. thank you for putting this out there. more people should find it and use it.

my only suggestions so far are that I’d like to be able to see an effect’s description and number of inputs without first having to activate it on the “stage,” and also that it would be wonderful to be able to quickly swap out or cycle through each somehow by way of the secondary long-press gesture (the one that brings up the option to delete the node) instead of having to back to the long menu docked on the left — necessitating some sort of elegant inline solution I guess? I’m sure you’ll know it when you see it.

Hidden gem but...

I cannot find any support! I edit video professionally with iOS software and I just discovered this the other day thru a recommendation... but I have never used node based compositing before, and while I have gotten the hang of it, and I am still so lost on so many aspects.

YouTube has next to nothing as far as tutorials for video editing.. cannot find a used guide anywhere....

You can find a help document built-in to Bricolage, just tap the info ('i') icon in the upper right corner then pick 'Help Document' or 'Tutorials' to view the PDF, or the YouTube tutorials. We also have a playlist on our YouTube channel with some general node-based compositing tutorials for Nuke or other such apps.

Incredibly powerful

If you have any experience with node-based compositing programs like ‘Shake’ or ‘Nuke’, this should be a breeze. It isn’t as powerful as those programs, but it is still heads and shoulders above the competition on iOS and can be used to create some very impressive composites. The only thing lacking in my mind is the lack of a proper rotoscoping tool. The ability to animate contours would be hugely beneficial and would make this already great software truly amazing.

We need 4K

At that price We need export in 4K

Response from developer

You are right! 4k export will be supported in the next update. Et voila, Bricolage 3.0 is out with 4k export (of your 4k input).

Don't Understand

I downloaded this so I could use chroma key for my Motion graphics animations but I don.t understand how it works because I.m normally used to doing animations on a timeline instead of nodes

If their is a way you could add an option where you could use a timeline instead of nodes that would be great 😌

How!?!?!?!

This S*** is F****** LEGIT! It's like fully fledged after effects/nuke compositing on ur phone!!!

Does not work on iOS 10

I didn't notice this app hasn't been updated in over a year before I made the purchase. It opens, but you can't create a new project, import video, or use "Open In" from other apps (Bricolage doesn't appear in the share menu in other apps).

If you have updated to iOS 10+, don't buy this until the publisher issues an update. Right now it is useless.

Response from developer

We hope the 2.0 version we just released addresses some of your concerns, though many users found the app quite useful under iOS 10. It is not clear when doing 'Open In' from another app, whether the artist wants to start a new project, or add the source into the existing project. In v2.0 you can open .cube 3D LUT files from other apps, and they are added to your color correction lookup table library.
