Cool idea, but don’t bother.

Works and a native app would be nice, but very mediocre. Food and drink locations super out of date, pins in random parts of the US. UI very dated. The Bronx website map is better, waste of money.

No stroller option

Great idea but if you’re pushing a stroller the routes the app suggests aren’t always suitable.

The app could use an accessible route mode to make it helpful for people using wheels to get around.

The zoo itself does have accessible options but we expected this app to consider that.

Hello worldofmorris - I would love to put in a stroller option (as I am the owner and I have a 16 month old son), but doing so costs literally in the high thousands of $$ and we just don't have that kind of budget yet. We are a small company and do what we can and I think we have a darn good app for doing this ourselves... 3 stars for not having a stroller option is a bit harsh, but thank you for your feedback.

3/4 of the time useless

Very little signal in the park, some dead zones so a good part of the time the map was useless.

Hello Helpful - We are sorry, but very little signal doesn't stop our app's ability to navigate - I think there may have been something wrong with your phone. We have access to the internal GPS of your iPhone (all iPhone 14 and later models have GPS and can connect to satellites to use navigation). We built our app in native code and have access to all internal workings like GPS and Satellite connectivity, which means we can provide directions no matter your connection. This is why we are even better than the map the Bronx Zoo uses, as they use a web-based navigation and cannot connect to the internal GPS, but we can and do. So again, if your navigation didn't work you either have an older phone or your phone wasn't working well. Please, before you give us a 1-star review, CONTACT US and let's see if we can't fix the problem or at least talk you through it. We are always willing to help. Total rip-off

Stick to the website it’s free. Does the same thing. This app is a rip off. You already pay so much to enter the zoo and they make you pay for a virtual map too. Rip off

So sorry you feel that way - but we are NOT part of the Bronx Zoo nor are we working with them in any way. We are an independent company and we didn't want to inundate users with tons of ads so we ask for $1.99. On top of that, we don't do the same thing as the map the Bronx Zoo provides - ours is built in native code and is an APP and can use GPS and satellites and doesn't need to be connected to the internet - theirs is a web-based solution that must have an internet connection (which in the zoo is very spotty). Their map can't use Satellite or GPS and is NOT even an app... Giving us a 1-star review because you didn't like paying for the app (which no one forced you to purchase in the first place), is not very nice. But thank you for your feedback and we hope you had a great day at the zoo.

Show me what I want to see!

This app may be useful when you’re at the zoo, but not when you’re planning your trip. 1) The menu is not useful outside the zoo: If I find the butterfly garden in the list of experiences, the app should show me the location. But outside the zoo, the app can’t show you how to walk there, so it won’t highlight the butterflies on the map. 2) The map is also not useful outside the zoo: it’s too overwhelmed by the many large icons. Let me choose which icons to see! If I’m using public transit, let me hide the parking icons; if I’m not buying food, let me hide the food icons.

Hello @1M0A0T1T1 - Thank you for your comments. No, we are not accessible outside the zoo as it would actually map you from wherever you are back to the zoo - so if you were in Phoenix, AZ you would be mapped from there to the zoo and it would make your experience worse. Also, the mapping and information is all meant to be used within the confines of the zoo itself for a more natural feel. As for the icons - you have a good point. We are trying to take more icons off the map so that it doesn't look so confusing and we think your idea of allowing users to choose the groups of icons is a good one, so look out for this in future releases of the BetterMaps app. Thank you again for your comments and suggestions.

1st time using

For 99 cents this is a pretty good map. Types which animals we wanted to see (not a follow in order type of person) and gave out the route which we followed. Gives feeding times and food locations.

Adding a 4th dimension to mapping tools

This app tells you where to go once you’re there. It adds an entirely new dimension to mapping tools by interacting with the user once they are at their destination. How many times have I gotten lost in a theme park or zoo or other large space and needed directions? Too many. And with safety and security top of mind these days, this tool could come in handy in a time of need too. This app has lots of uses.
