About
You can see the color. You know roughly what it needs. And then you spend ten minutes on the palette pushing paint around, and the mix still sits a little too pink, a little too chalky, a little too dead.
BrushLens closes that gap. Open a reference photo, tap any spot, and it tells you what to mix from the paints you actually own: for example 60% Titanium White, 30% Transparent Oxide Red, 10% Ivory Black, with the match shown as a percentage. Not a hex code. A recipe.
MIX
- Mixing recipes from your own tubes, in percentages by volume.
- Base mixes: lock one pile as the starting point and every recipe for that passage becomes "base plus a touch of". No more recomputing from scratch on every tap.
- Value, saturation and temperature for every sample, so you know what the mix has to do before you mix it.
- Your palette: choose the tubes you own, or photograph your swatches with the Swatch Scanner and let the app read them, white corrected.
- Chroma Curves: tap the darkest and lightest point of a form and see how saturation should travel through it.
- Temperature map: where the reference is warm and where it is cool, with a note on how to tone your palette for it.
PLAN
- Values: the reference grouped into 2 to 6 value steps, with an exposure slider.
- Notan: the big light and dark shapes, before any detail.
- Crop: canvas ratios and composition guides, so the picture is right before the drawing starts.
CHECK
- Proportion Check: hold your phone up to your painting and the reference ghosts over the live camera picture. Lock it, freeze it, or switch on Difference so every mistake in the drawing lights up.
ON PAPER
- Printable Mixing Chart: one tube crossed with every other color on your palette, with percentages under every swatch. Find the swatch by eye, mix by the numbers.
- Painting Record: the reference with numbered sample points and the recipe for each, for the back of the panel.
- AirPrint, Save to Photos and Share for all of it.
MADE BY A PAINTER
BrushLens is built by Soren Ulsig, an oil painter and teacher, and it uses correct paint terms throughout: pigments by name, mixtures by proportion, values on a ten step scale. Every tool comes with a short explanation of the painting idea behind it.
