About

Counting calories isn't enough: without knowing your metabolism, the count starts from a number in a table. Burro learns how much energy you really burn, follows your meals as you digest them, and shows you where you stand at any moment. So you decide, with your eyes open. HOW MUCH YOU CAN STILL EAT The number in the middle of the screen is how many calories under you are right now. It rises as your body burns energy and drops when you eat. Below it is how much you can still eat to end the day at the deficit you chose. Around it, four indicators: how fast you're burning energy right now, how much food you're still digesting, whether you're burning more sugar or more fat, and how active you've been. YOUR DAY, HOUR BY HOUR The chart compares the energy you've burned with the energy you've eaten; the gap between the two curves is your deficit. A thin line shows how much of your food has already reached your bloodstream. HOW LONG DIGESTION TAKES A meal doesn't reach your bloodstream all at once. Burro estimates how long it takes from what's in it: fat, protein and fiber slow digestion down, liquids speed it up. It also accounts for what you eat together: pasta eaten with a steak digests more slowly than pasta on its own. SUGAR OR FAT Your liver stores about 400 calories of sugar, which your body uses between meals. Burro estimates how much is left, when it will run out if you don't eat, and how much of your energy is coming from sugar and how much from fat. WHAT TO EAT, AND HOW MUCH (BURRO PLUS) If you have 300 calories left and you're 20 grams short on protein, Burro searches your own foods for the ones that fit and suggests the right portion. IT LEARNS YOUR METABOLISM Formulas that estimate metabolism are off by about 10% on average. Burro starts there, then every week it compares the deficit it calculated with your actual weight trend and corrects the estimate. After a few weeks, the math is based on your metabolism, not an average person's. FAST LOGGING Scan a barcode and the nutrition facts come from Open Food Facts. Over three hundred basic ingredients, plus what you order at the coffee bar or the pizzeria, are already in the app with real portions. Or write a meal the way you'd say it, "bread, ham and a coffee", and Burro splits it into items. It recognizes the meals you repeat, and you log them in one tap. DISHES Write your own dishes with ingredients and quantities, or start from a hundred home recipes. Several things picked together become one meal. WORKS WITH APPLE HEALTH Active calories, weight and body measurements come from the Health app, so your workouts count automatically. If several apps record the same workout, you choose which one to use. EVEN WITHOUT OPENING THE APP A balance widget, Repeat, Scan and Quick in Control Center, Siri ("Log a meal in Burro") and, if you want them, reminders when you skip a meal. With Burro Plus you also get the ring, the day chart and your streak on the Home Screen and Lock Screen, plus a Live Activity in the Dynamic Island. A SAFETY FLOOR Burro won't let you go below a minimum calorie intake, measured across the whole week rather than a single day: one day of fasting is fine, a whole week of eating too little is not. BURRO PLUS Everything you need every day is free: logging, scanning, searching, recipes, your balance, the chart, the last two weeks of your diary and iCloud sync. A single purchase, with no subscription, unlocks history and the diary beyond two weeks, suggestions on what to eat, three more widgets, four more color schemes and the Live Activity. YOUR DATA STAYS YOURS No account, no ads, no usage tracking. Your diary syncs across your devices through your private iCloud. Weight and body measurements stay on your phone. Burro provides an estimate, not a diagnosis. Talk to your doctor before starting a diet or an extended fast.

What's New in Burro

1.1

September 29, 2026

• Dishes: write your own with ingredients and quantities, or start from over a hundred home recipes, from carbonara to apple cake. Log a serving — small, regular, large or restaurant-size — or weigh your plate, and correct an ingredient to update the dish. • Over three hundred basic foods already in the app, with real portions — a small, medium or large apple, an egg, a garlic clove — plus what you order when you eat out: coffee bar, pizzeria, sandwiches, ice cream, aperitivo. • Write a meal the way you'd say it — "two rusks, jam and a coffee" — and Burro splits it into items with their quantities, for you to check before logging. With Siri too: "Log a meal in Burro". • Usual meals: the meals you repeat are recognized on their own, sit at the top of Recent and log in one tap. At lunch you also get last night's leftovers, and a meal from your diary can be saved as a usual meal or as a dish. • Before logging you see how much you'll have left; right after, you can undo it from the bar at the bottom of the screen. • Pick the time in one tap, with its meal, and fill in a forgotten day with your usual meals. • Reminders, off until you turn them on: when you skip a usual meal, and in the evening if the day looks incomplete. From the notification, "As usual" logs it without opening the app. • "One more" logs the last thing again, for that second coffee, and after logging Siri tells you where your day stands. Control Center gets Scan and Quick. • Your library is split into Foods and Dishes. Your foods sit in categories, like the built-in ones, and a new one comes with its category already suggested: from the barcode, from its name or, with Apple Intelligence, from the model running on your phone. • After a normal meal the ring no longer turns surplus-colored while the day still has room, and a line tells you where you'll end the day if you don't eat anything else. • A quick entry can say what it was, and the editor has a line for alcohol. • Your data export takes everything: foods, dishes, fasts and meals with their links. • Every past day keeps the target it had then, on all your devices, even when you travel, and a new phone doesn't rewrite it. • Calibration counts the fasts you declare and isn't thrown off by a wrong weigh-in; a weigh-in deleted in Health disappears from Burro too. • The last two weeks of your diary stay free; older days open with Burro Plus, along with full History. • Dozens of fixes: a meal's time is when you log it, a dish you just look at in the cookbook doesn't end up in yours, built-in foods can be merged too, every card reads in full with large text, and the tiny buttons are real buttons now.
